STEERING PAD ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION:

Be sure to follow the correct removal and installation procedures of the steering pad assembly.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY (for Vehicle not Involved in Collision)


    1. Perform a diagnostic system check.

      Click here

    2. Visually check for defects with the steering pad assembly installed on the vehicle.


      1. The defects are as follows:


        • Cuts on the surface and in the grooves of the steering pad assembly

        • Small cracks on the surface and in the grooves of the steering pad assembly

        • Significant discoloration on the surface and in the grooves of the steering pad assembly

        OK
        No defects are found.

        Tech Tips

        If any of the defects is found, replace the steering pad assembly with a new one.

  2. INSPECT STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY (for Vehicle Involved in Collision and Airbag not Deployed)


    1. Perform a diagnostic system check.

    2. Visually check for defects with the steering pad assembly removed from the vehicle.


      1. The defects are as follows:


        • Cuts on the surface and in the grooves of the steering pad assembly

        • Small cracks on the surface and in the grooves of the steering pad assembly

        • Significant discoloration on the surface and in the grooves of the steering pad assembly

        • Cracks or other damage to the connector

        • Deformation of the steering wheel assembly

        • Deformation of the horn button contact plate of the steering pad assembly

        • Interference or uneven clearance between the steering pad assembly and steering wheel assembly when the new steering pad assembly is installed on the steering wheel assembly

        OK
        No defects are found.

        Tech Tips

        If any of the defects is found, replace the steering pad assembly or steering wheel assembly with a new one.
