HANDLING PRECAUTIONS FOR SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM
This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). Failure to carry out service operations in the correct sequence could cause the SRS to unexpectedly deploy during servicing. This may cause a serious accident.
Before servicing (including inspection, replacement, removal and installation of parts), be sure to read the precautionary notices for Supplemental Restraint System.
PRECAUTIONS FOR REMOVAL, INSTALLATION AND REPLACEMENT OF ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING COMPONENTS
Be sure to align the front wheels straight ahead when removing and installing the power steering gear assembly.
When disconnecting the steering intermediate shaft assembly, be sure to place matchmarks before starting the operation.
After replacing the power steering ECU assembly, perform assist map writing.
HANDLING PRECAUTION
When handling the electronic parts:
Avoid any impact to electronic parts such as ECUs and relays. Replace them with new ones if dropped or subjected to a severe impact.
Do not expose any electronic parts to high temperatures or humidity.
Do not touch the connector terminals in order to prevent deformation or malfunctions due to static electricity.
When handling the power steering ECU assembly:
When the power steering ECU assembly has been replaced with a new one, perform assist map writing.
When disconnecting and reconnecting the connectors:
Before disconnecting the connectors related to the power steering system, turn the engine switch on (IG), center the steering wheel, turn the engine switch off, and then disconnect the connectors.
Before reconnecting the connectors related to the power steering system, ensure that the engine switch is off. Then center the steering wheel and turn the engine switch on (IG).
Note
Do not turn the engine switch on (IG) when the steering wheel is not centered.
PRECAUTIONS FOR CAN COMMUNICATION
CAN communication lines are used to receive information from the ECM and the skid control ECU, and to transmit warnings to the combination meter assembly.
When problems are detected in the CAN communication lines, CAN communication DTCs are stored.
Perform troubleshooting for communication problems when CAN communication DTCs are output. Be sure to start troubleshooting the power steering system after confirming that the CAN communication system is normal.
Since the CAN communication lines each have their own length and route, they cannot be repaired temporarily with a bypass wire, etc.
PRECAUTIONS FOR POWER STEERING SYSTEM
When the battery voltage is low, the rear window defogger, seat heater, PTC heater, outer mirror heater and windshield deicer operation may be limited as part of power steering system load control.
When the battery voltage is low, which may result in an increase in the force required to steer, the power steering warning light is turned on to warn the driver.
