PROCEDURE
DRAIN COOLANT (for Intercooler)
CAUTION:
Do not remove the reservoir cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
| *a | Vinyl Tube |
Install a vinyl tube to the radiator drain cock plug (for Intercooler).
| *1 | Reservoir Cap (for Intercooler) |
| *2 | Radiator Drain Cock Plug (for Intercooler) |
| *3 | Bleeder Plug |
Loosen the radiator drain cock plug (for Intercooler) and drain the coolant (for Intercooler).
Tech Tips
Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.
Remove the reservoir cap (for Intercooler).
Tighten the radiator drain cock plug (for Intercooler) by hand.
Remove the vinyl tube from the radiator drain cock plug (for Intercooler).
ADD COOLANT (for Intercooler)
CAUTION:
Do not remove the reservoir cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.
When using the GTS:
| *1 | Bleeder Plug |
Loosen the bleeder plug of the intercooler cooling radiator assembly.
| *a | B Line |
Add coolant to the intercooler reservoir assembly filler opening until it is filled to the B line at the base of the intercooler reservoir filler neck.
| Standard capacity |
|---|
| 2.9 liters (3.1 US qts, 2.6 Imp. qts) |
Note
Never use water as a substitute for coolant.
Tech Tips
The B line is the lower edge of the inner wall of the filler neck.
TOYOTA vehicles are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damage to the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology consists of a combination of low phosphates and organic acids).
Tighten the bleeder plug of the intercooler cooling radiator assembly.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Intercooler Water Pump
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Control the Intercooler Water Pump |
While adding coolant so that the coolant level is kept near the FULL line in the intercooler reservoir assembly, activate the electric water pump assembly for approximately 1 minute and then stop pump operation for 1 minute. At that time, check that air bubbles are discharged to the intercooler reservoir assembly.
| Standard |
|---|
| Repeat this operation approximately 3 times until the sound of the electric water pump assembly gets smaller and no more bubbles are visible from the intercooler reservoir assembly or the coolant level in the intercooler reservoir assembly stabilizes. When this condition is reached, this indicates that air is completely bled from the coolant system. |
Tech Tips
If the intercooler reservoir assembly is filled excessively with coolant, coolant may spill out when the electric water pump assembly is stopped.
When air is completely bleed, add coolant up to the FULL line in the intercooler reservoir assembly, and install the reservoir cap (for Intercooler).
When not using the GTS:
Install the reservoir cap (for Intercooler). [*1]
Start the engine. [*2]
In order to operate the electric water pump assembly, maintain the engine speed at 2000 rpm or higher with the shift lever in N or P for 1 minute and then stop operation for 1 minute. Repeat this operation approximately 3 times until the sound of the electric water pump assembly gets smaller and no more bubbles are visible from the intercooler reservoir assembly or the coolant level in the intercooler reservoir assembly stabilizes. [*3]
CAUTION:
Be careful as the radiator hoses are hot.
Keep your hands away from the cooling fan.
Note
Make sure that the coolant level in the intercooler reservoir assembly does not drop below the LOW line when the engine speed is 2000 rpm or higher.
Immediately after starting the engine, if the intercooler reservoir assembly runs out of coolant, perform the following: 1) stop the engine, 2) wait until the coolant has cooled down, and 3) pour in coolant until it reaches the B line.
Stop the engine and wait until the coolant cools down to ambient temperature. [*4]
Check that the coolant level is between the FULL and Low line.[*5]
If the coolant level is lower than the LOW line, pour coolant of the specified concentration into the intercooler reservoir assembly until it reaches the B line, and repeat the procedure from steps [*1] to [*5].
If the coolant level is above the FULL line, drain coolant so that the coolant level is between the FULL and LOW line.
INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK (for Intercooler)
