PROCEDURE
CHECK FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND INSPECT FOR FUEL LEAK
Check fuel pump operation.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Note
Do not start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Active the Circuit Relay
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Activate the Circuit Relay |
Check for pressure in the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pipe. Check that sounds of fuel flowing from the fuel tank assembly can be heard. If no sounds can be heard, check the relay, fuel pump assembly, ECM and wiring connectors.
Inspect for fuel leaks.
Check that there are no fuel leaks from the fuel system after doing any maintenance or repairs. If there is a fuel leak, repair or replace parts as necessary.
Turn the engine switch off.
Disconnect the GTS from the DLC3.
CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
Discharge the fuel system pressure.
Using a voltmeter, measure the battery voltage.
| Standard voltage |
|---|
| 11 to 14 V |
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
Remove the fuel pump protector.
Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel pump assembly.
| *a | SST (Hose Band) |
| *b | SST (T Joint) |
| *c | SST (Pressure Gauge) |
| *d | SST (Hose Joint) |
| *e | SST (Hose) |
| *f | SST (Fuel Tube Connector) |
Install SST (EFI fuel pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.
Disconnect the fuel tube sub-assembly from the fuel delivery pipe.
| *a | SST (Hose Band) |
| *b | SST (T Joint) |
| *c | SST (Pressure Gauge) |
| *d | SST (Hose Joint) |
| *e | SST (Hose) |
| *f | SST (Fuel Tube Connector) |
Install SST (EFI fuel pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.
Wipe up any spilled fuel.
Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Note
Do not start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Active the Circuit Relay.
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Activate the Circuit Relay |
| Standard fuel pressure |
|---|
| 196 to 833 kPa (2.0 to 8.5 kgf/cm2, 28 to 121 psi) |
If fuel pressure is more than the standard, inspect the pressure discharge valve assembly.
If fuel pressure is less than the standard, inspect the fuel hoses and connectors, fuel pump assembly, fuel filter and fuel pressure discharge valve assembly.
Start the engine.
Measure the fuel pressure at idle.
| Standard fuel pressure |
|---|
| 196 to 833 kPa (2.0 to 8.5 kgf/cm2, 28 to 121 psi) |
Stop the engine.
After checking the fuel pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and carefully remove SST to prevent fuel from spraying.
Note
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
Install the fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel delivery pipe.
Install the fuel tube sub-assembly to the fuel pump assembly.
Install the fuel pump protector.
Inspect for fuel leaks.
CHECK FUEL PRESSURE (for High Pressure)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the GTS on.
Start and warm up the engine.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Fuel Pressure (High).
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Fuel Pressure (High) |
| Standard fuel pressure |
|---|
| 3400 to 8000 kPa (34.7 to 81.6 kgf/cm2, 493 to 1160 psi) |
ACTIVE TEST (Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the GTS on.
Start the engine, then enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut. Select a cylinder from #1 to #4.
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Control the Select Cylinder Fuel Cut |
Tech Tips
Perform this procedure with the vehicle stopped and the engine idling.
After stopping injection of the cylinder for which the Active Test was performed, check the idling state.
| Standard |
|---|
| The idling speed varies. |
Tech Tips
Perform a test for each cylinder. It is not possible to test multiple cylinders at once.
