Note


  • When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.

  • When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER LH

    1. Using SST and a press, press in the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH until the new rear drive shaft dust cover LH contacts the edge of the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.

      Note


      • The rear drive shaft dust cover LH should be installed completely.

      • Do not damage the rear drive shaft dust cover LH.

      • Make sure to install the rear drive shaft dust cover LH in the correct direction.

  2. INSTALL DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT

    *a Protective Tape

    1. Before installing the drive shaft outboard joint boot, wrap the splines of the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly LH with protective tape to prevent the drive shaft outboard joint boot from being damaged.

      Install new parts to the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH in the following order.


      1. Rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH

      2. Drive shaft outboard joint boot

      3. Rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH

    3. Install the drive shaft outboard joint boot so that it is between the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH and rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

    4. Temporarily install the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH to the drive shaft outboard joint boot.

    5. Pack the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH and drive shaft outboard joint boot with grease from the boot kit.

      Standard Grease Capacity
      55.0 to 65.0 g (2.0 to 2.2 oz)

      Note


      • Do not apply grease to the part of the drive shaft outboard joint boot that contacts the groove.

      • Do not allow foreign matter to enter the drive shaft outboard joint boot.

  3. INSTALL REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH


    1. A01HJ9V

      Install the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH to the drive shaft outboard joint boot.

      Note

      Correctly set the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH to the guide groove.

    2. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, stake the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Do not damage the drive shaft outboard joint boot.

  4. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH


    1. Install SST to the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH, and then while pressing the drive shaft outboard joint boot, slightly tighten the SST bolt.

      • Correctly set the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH to the guide groove.

      • Do not damage the drive shaft outboard joint boot.

    2. A01XOKXC04
      *a Turn
      *b Hold

      Tighten SST so that the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH is pinched.

      Standard Clearance
      1.2 mm (0.0472 in.) or less

      Note


      • When tightening SST, make sure the clearance of the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH is within the standard clearance.

      • Do not damage the drive shaft outboard joint boot.

    3. Remove SST from the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH.

    4. A01XOEGN01

      Using SST, measure the clearance of the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH.

      1.2 mm (0.0472 in.) or less

      Note

      If the measured value exceeds the specified value, retighten the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH.

  5. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY LH

      *1 Rear Drive Shaft Inboard Joint Boot Clamp LH
      *2 Drive Shaft Inboard Joint Boot
      *3 Rear No. 2 Drive Shaft Inboard Joint Boot Clamp LH
      *a Protective Tape
      B0057RX Outboard Joint Side
      B0059IK Inboard Joint Side

      Install new parts to the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH in the following order.


      1. Rear drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH

      2. Drive shaft inboard joint boot

      3. Rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH

    2. Remove the protective tape from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      *a Matchmark
      B0057RX Outboard Joint Side

      Align the matchmarks and place the beveled side of the tripod joint axial spline toward the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

    4. A01XOK4

      Using a brass bar and hammer, tap the tripod joint onto the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Note


      • Do not tap the rollers.

      • Be sure to install the tripod joint in the correct direction.

    5. A01XOUD

      Using a snap ring expander, install a new shaft snap ring.

      Note

      The shaft snap ring should be installed completely.

    6. Pack the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH and drive shaft inboard joint boot with grease from the boot kit.

      77.0 to 87.0 g (2.8 to 3.0 oz)

      *a Matchmark

      Align the matchmarks and install the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH to the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

  6. INSTALL DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT


    1. Install the drive shaft inboard joint boot to the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly.

      Note


      • Do not apply grease to the part of the drive shaft inboard joint boot that contacts the groove.

      • Do not allow foreign matter to enter the drive shaft inboard joint boot.

    2. A01XPDTN16

      Check that the drive shaft inboard joint boot and drive shaft outboard joint boot are not stretched or contracted when the rear drive shaft assembly is at the standard length.

      733.2 mm (2.40 ft.)

      Note

      Keep the rear drive shaft assembly level during inspection.

      If the drive shaft inboard joint boot and drive shaft outboard joint boot are stretched or contracted, correct them.

  7. INSTALL REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH


    1. A01XNNXC01
      *a Claw Engagement

      Install the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH to the drive shaft inboard joint boot.

      Note

      Correctly set the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH to the guide groove.

    2. Using needle-nose pliers, hold the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH at the claw engagement as shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • Do not damage the drive shaft inboard joint boot.

      • Do not deform the claw engagement of the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH.

  8. INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH.
