AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:

The engine assembly with automatic transaxle assembly is very heavy. Be sure to follow the procedure described in the repair manual, or the engine lifter may suddenly drop.

Note

If automatic transmission parts are replaced, refer to the Parts Replacement Compensation Table to determine if any additional operations are necessary.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01XNZ2

      Remove the 4 bolts, 2 compression springs and front exhaust pipe sub-assembly from the front No. 2 exhaust pipe sub-assembly and exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 gaskets from the front exhaust pipe sub-assembly and exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly.

  2. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING UNDER COVER

      Remove the flywheel housing under cover.

  3. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY SETTING BOLT

      Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley.

      Tech Tips

      Part number of installation bolt for SST (crankshaft pulley holdingtool): 91551-80650 (quantity: 2)

    2. A01XP3W

      Remove the 6 drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolts.

  4. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE

  5. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  6. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS


    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable from the automatic transaxle assembly.

      *A w/ Stop and Start System - -
    2. Detach the 6 wire harness clamps.

    3. Turn the lock lever and disconnect the connector from the wiring harness connector.

    4. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    5. w/ Stop and Start System:

      Disconnect the oil with motor pump connector.

  7. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET


    1. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 wire harness clamp bracket.

  8. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

      w/ Air Cooled Transmission Oil Cooler:

      Slide the clip and disconnect the oil cooler inlet hose from the automatic transaxle assembly.

      Note

      Use a container to catch any fluid which flows out of the oil cooler inlet hose and oil cooler outlet hose.

    2. A01XMVZ

      w/o Air Cooled Transmission Oil Cooler:

      Slide the 2 clips and disconnect the oil cooler inlet hose and oil cooler outlet hose from the automatic transaxle assembly.

      Note

      Use a container to catch any fluid which flows out of the oil cooler inlet hose and oil cooler outlet hose.

    3. A01XP2B

      Remove the 3 bolts and transmission oil cooler from the front engine mounting bracket.

  9. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET

      Remove the 4 bolts and front engine mounting bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  10. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH

      Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting bracket LH from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  11. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET

      Remove the 3 bolts and rear engine mounting bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  12. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  13. REMOVE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR


    1. A01XP8J

      Remove the 2 bolts and wiring harness connector from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  14. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG ASSEMBLY


    1. A01XPM6

      Remove the transmission case plug assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  15. REMOVE BREATHER HOSE CLAMP


    1. A01XNX3

      Remove the clamp from the transmission breather hose sub-assembly.

  16. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY


    1. A01XP3G

      Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transaxle assembly from the engine assembly.

      Note

      To prevent damage to the 2 knock pins, do not pry between the automatic transaxle assembly and engine assembly.

  17. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

      Note

      Remove the torque converter assembly from the input shaft horizontally.

  18. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
