STOP AND START SYSTEM Engine Hood Courtesy Switch Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The engine stop and start ECU detects whether the engine hood is open or closed based on a signal received from the engine hood courtesy switch built into the hood lock assembly.

• The engine stop and start ECU prohibits starting of the engine by stop and start control and changes the mode to "stalled" if the engine hood is opened with the shift lever in D or M while the engine is stopped by stop and start control.

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING GTS (HOOD COURTESY SWITCH)

   Note

   Before performing this step, check that the engine hood can be opened by pulling the hood lock control cable.

   
   

   1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

   2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

   3. Turn the GTS on.

   4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Data List / Hood Courtesy Switch.

   5. According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List.

2. INSPECT HOOD LOCK ASSEMBLY (ENGINE HOOD COURTESY SWITCH)

   
   

   1. Remove the engine hood courtesy switch (hood lock assembly).

   2.

      *c	Component without harness connected (Hood Lock Assembly (Engine Hood Courtesy Switch))

      Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition 1 (E) - 2 (+) Opened 10 kΩ or higher Locked Below 1 Ω

      Result
      Proceed to OK NG

3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE HOOD COURTESY SWITCH (HOOD LOCK ASSEMBLY) - BODY GROUND)

   
   

   1. Disconnect the A32 engine hood courtesy switch (hood lock assembly) connector.

   2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition A32-1 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result
      Proceed to OK NG

   REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ENGINE STOP AND START ECU - ENGINE HOOD COURTESY SWITCH (HOOD LOCK ASSEMBLY))

   
   

   1. Disconnect the A38 engine stop and start ECU connector.

   2. Disconnect the A32 engine hood courtesy switch (hood lock assembly) connector.

   3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition A38-7 (BNT1) - A32-2 (+) Always Below 1 Ω A38-7 (BNT1) or A32-2 (+) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
