INITIALIZE SLIDING ROOF SYSTEM
Note
When the sliding roof glass sub-assembly or sliding roof drive cable sub-assembly is adjusted or removed/installed, or the sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly is replaced, the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly) must be initialized to store the position of the sliding roof glass. If initialization is not performed, the auto operation function, jam protection function, key-off operation function, key-linked function, wireless transmitter-linked function and sliding roof open warning function may not operate.
During initialization, do not subject the vehicle to physical shock, such as opening/closing a door or driving the vehicle at 5 km/h (3 mph) or more, and do not perform any electrical operations.
Disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal when any of following conditions is met may cause the sliding roof ECU (sliding roof drive gear sub-assembly) to lose its initialized settings.
2 seconds or less have elapsed since the sliding roof glass was last operated.
10 seconds or less have elapsed since turning the engine switch from on to off.
Tech Tips
The sliding roof switch is built into the map light assembly.
Perform initialization according to the table below.
| Condition of Sliding Roof | Proceed to |
|---|---|
| Auto operation function does not operate. (Only manual slide close/tilt up function operates.) | Procedure A |
| Auto operation function does not operate. (Manual operation function operates.) | Procedure B |
| Auto operation function operates, but the sliding roof glass moves in the reverse direction during slide close or tilt down operation. | Procedure C |
| The sliding roof glass cannot be fully closed due to a discrepancy between the stored position and actual position of the sliding roof glass. | Procedure D |
Procedure A
Note
Press and hold the CLOSE or DOWN switch until step 4 is completed. If the switch is released before step 4 is completed, turn the engine switch off and perform procedure A again.
Be careful not to let any part of your body or a foreign object get caught in the sliding roof since the jam protection function will not operate during this procedure.
If the sliding roof glass position is between the fully tilted up position and fully open position:
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Press and hold the DOWN or CLOSE switch.
The sliding roof glass completes the following operations: (The sliding roof glass moves 25 mm in the slide open direction*) → slide closed → tilt down → tilt up → slide open → reverse direction when open approximately 245 mm → slide closed → tilt down → tilt up → tilt down.
Tech Tips
*: If the last operation performed before initialization was in the slide open direction.
After the sliding roof glass stops in the fully closed position, the initialization process is complete.
Make sure that the sliding roof auto operation function operates normally.
If the sliding roof glass position is between the fully tilted up position and fully closed position:
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Press and hold the DOWN or CLOSE switch.
The sliding roof glass completes the following operations: (The sliding roof glass slightly tilts down*) → tilt up → slide open → reverse direction when open approximately 245 mm → slide closed → tilt down → tilt up → tilt down.
Tech Tips
*: If the last operation performed before initialization was in the tilt down direction.
After the sliding roof glass stops in the fully closed position, the initialization process is complete.
Make sure that the sliding roof auto operation function operates normally.
Procedure B
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Press and hold the OPEN switch until the sliding roof glass is fully open.
Press and hold the CLOSE switch until the sliding roof glass is fully closed.
Press and hold the UP switch until the sliding roof glass is fully tilted up.
Press and hold the DOWN switch until the sliding roof glass is fully tilted down, then release the switch.
Tech Tips
The initialization process is complete when the switch is released.
Make sure that the sliding roof auto operation function operates normally.
Procedure C
If the sliding roof glass position is between the fully tilted up position and fully closed position:
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Press and hold the DOWN switch for 10 seconds or more until the sliding roof glass is fully closed.
Make sure that the sliding roof glass only operates when using the manual operation function.
Perform procedure B to initialize the position of the sliding roof glass.
If the sliding roof glass position is between the tilted up position and fully open position:
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Press and hold the CLOSE switch for 10 seconds or more until the sliding roof glass is fully closed.
Make sure that the sliding roof glass only operates when using the manual operation function.
Perform procedure B to initialize the position of the sliding roof glass.
Procedure D
If the sliding roof glass is fully closed.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Press and hold the DOWN or CLOSE switch for at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the sliding roof glass only operates in the tilt up direction using the manual operation function.
Perform procedure A to initialize the position of the sliding roof glass.
If the sliding roof glass is not fully closed.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Press and hold both the DOWN and CLOSE switches for at least 10 seconds.
Make sure that the sliding roof glass only operates in the tilt up direction or slide close direction using the manual operation function.
Perform procedure A to initialize the position of the sliding roof glass.
