DESCRIPTION

The side collision sensor LH circuit (to determine deployment of the front seat airbag assembly LH, curtain shield airbag assembly LH and front seat outer belt assembly LH) consists of the airbag ECU assembly, side airbag sensor assembly LH, rear airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor LH.

The side airbag sensor assembly LH, rear airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor LH detect impacts to the vehicle and send signals to the airbag ECU assembly to determine if the airbags and pretensioner should be deployed.

These DTCs are stored when a malfunction is detected in the side collision sensor LH circuit.

    1. Check for current DTCs.

      Tip:

      • DTCs indicating communication errors will be changed to DTCs indicating errors in initialization by turning the engine switch off and then on (IG) again.

      • Codes other than current DTCs B1627, B1628, B1637, B1638, B1647, B1697, B1698 and 82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    CHECK CONNECTORS


    1. Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check that the connectors are properly connected to the airbag ECU assembly, side airbag sensor assembly LH, rear airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor LH. Also check that the connectors that link the No. 2 floor wire and front door wire LH are properly connected.

      OK
      The connectors are properly connected.
      Tip:

      If the connectors are not properly connected, reconnect the connectors and proceed to the next inspection.

    4. Disconnect the connectors from the airbag ECU assembly, side airbag sensor assembly LH, rear airbag sensor LH and door side airbag sensor LH. Also disconnect the connectors that link the No. 2 floor wire and front door wire LH.

    5. Check that the terminals of the connectors are not deformed or damaged.

      OK
      The terminals are not deformed or damaged.

      *2 Airbag ECU Assembly

      Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Interchange the rear airbag sensor LH with RH and connect the connectors.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

    6. Turn the engine switch off.

    7. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    8. Check for DTCs.

      Tip:

      Codes other than DTCs B1632 and B1637 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

    9. Turn the engine switch off.

    10. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    11. Return the rear airbag sensor LH and RH to their original positions and connect the connectors.

    CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY LH

      *1 Side Airbag Sensor Assembly RH
      *2 Rear Airbag Sensor LH

      Turn the engine switch off.

    2. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Interchange the side airbag sensor assembly LH with RH and connect the connectors.

    4. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

    5. Clear the DTCs stored in memory.

    6. Turn the engine switch off.

    7. Turn the engine switch on (IG), and wait for at least 60 seconds.

    8. Check for DTCs.
