REAR BRAKE INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The following procedure is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL REAR DISC


    1. B00688T

      Check the identification mark to determine the installation side.

      Note

      The rear disc needs to be installed to the correct side of the vehicle. There is a "LEFT", indicating the disc for the left wheel, or a "RIGHT", indicating the disc for the right wheel, engraved on the disc in the position shown in the illustration.

    2. When reusing the rear disc:

        *a Matchmark

        Align the matchmarks of the rear disc and rear axle hub and bearing assembly, and install the rear disc.

    3. When replacing the rear disc:


      1. Inspect the rear disc runout.

        Click here

      2. Select the installation position where the rear disc has minimal runout, and install the rear disc.

    4. Temporarily install the hub nut.

  2. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG


    1. Install the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug to rear disc.

  3. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      125 N*m  { 1275 kgf*cm, 92 ft.*lbf }
  4. CONNECT REAR FLEXIBLE HOSE


    1. Connect the rear flexible hose to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly with a new union bolt and a new gasket.

      Torque:
      39.2 N*m  { 400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Install the rear flexible hose lock securely into the lock hole in the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  5. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT

      Apply a light coat of disc brake grease to the rear disc brake pads as shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • When applying disc brake grease, use the grease enclosed with a rear disc brake pad kit or supplied grease (Part No. 90998-94072) or equivalent.

      • There should be no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the pads and the disc.

    2. B0066NBC01
      *1 Rear Disc Brake Anti-squeal Shim

      Install the rear disc brake anti-squeal shim to each rear disc brake pad.

      Note

      When replacing the rear disc brake pads with new ones, make sure to replace the rear disc brake anti-squeal shim kit at the same time.

  6. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD


    1. Check the shape of the rear disc brake pad.

    2. Install the pad wear indicator wire assembly to the rear disc brake pad (inner) with a new pad wear indicator retainer.

      Note

      When replacing the rear disc brake pads with new ones, make sure to replace the pad wear indicator wire assembly and pad wear indicator retainer at the same time.

      *a Notch

      Install the 2 rear disc brake pads to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Note

      The rear disc brake pad with the pad wear indicator wire assembly must be installed to the inside position.

    4. Insert the pad wear indicator wire assembly to the notch of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Connect the bleeder plug cap portion of the pad wear indicator wire assembly to the rear disc brake bleeder plug.

    6. Install the pad wear indicator wire assembly to the 2 clamps of rear disc brake dust cover.

      Connect the pad wear indicator wire connector to the rear speed sensor.

      Install the rear disc brake anti-rattle spring to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

    9. While pushing the rear disc brake anti-rattle spring as shown in the illustration, install the 2 pad guide pins to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

    10. B0066YP

      Using a hammer, install the pad guide pin (lower) by tapping the head of the pad guide pin (lower) until the ring is seated in the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Note


      • Do not damage the surface of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      • Make sure that the ring of the pad guide pin (lower) is securely engaged with the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      • Make sure that the rear disc brake anti-rattle spring (lower) is securely installed into the grooves of the pad guide pin (lower).

    11. B0066LB

      Using a hammer, install the pad guide pin (upper) by tapping the head of the pad guide pin (upper) until the ring is seated in the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      Note


      • Do not damage the surface of the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      • Make sure that the ring of the pad guide pin (upper) is securely engaged with the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

      • Make sure that the rear disc brake anti-rattle spring (upper) is securely installed into the grooves of the pad guide pin (upper).

  7. BLEED BRAKE LINE
