AUTOMATIC LIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM
When the headlight dimmer switch is in the AUTO position, the automatic light control system detects ambient light levels and controls the headlights, taillights, front fog lights*, clearance lights and license plate lights.
*: w/ Front Fog Light
LIGHT AUTO TURN-OFF SYSTEM (for Door-linked Light Auto Turn-off System)
*1: w/ Front Fog Light
*2: w/ Rear Fog Light
The light auto turn-off system is used to prevent the driver from leaving the vehicle with the headlights, front fog lights*1, rear fog lights*2, clearance lights, taillights or license plate lights on. When all of the following conditions are met, the exterior lights turn off:
The headlights, front fog lights*1, rear fog lights*2, clearance lights, taillights, or license plate lights are on.
The power switch is turned from on (IG) to off.
The driver door is opened.
LIGHT AUTO TURN-OFF SYSTEM (except Door-linked Light Auto Turn-off System)
*1: w/ Front Fog Light
*2: w/ Rear Fog Light
The light auto turn-off system is used to prevent the driver from leaving the vehicle with the headlights, front fog lights*1, rear fog lights*2, clearance lights, taillights or license plate lights on.
| Switch Condition | Outline |
|---|---|
| Headlight dimmer switch in AUTO position | While the lights (headlights, front fog lights*1, rear fog lights*2, clearance lights, taillights or license plate lights) are turned on, this control automatically turns them off when the power switch is turned from on (IG) to off. |
| Headlight dimmer switch in tail or head position | While the lights (headlights, front fog lights*1, rear fog lights*2, clearance lights, taillights or license plate lights) are turned on, this control automatically turns off only headlights and the front fog lights*1 when the power switch is turned from on (IG) to off. |
DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT SYSTEM
The daytime running light system is designed to automatically illuminate the clearance lights (high intensity parking lights), during the daytime to make the car more visible to other vehicles.
The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) controls this system.
This system is enabled when the conditions below are met:
The power switch is on (IG).
READY condition is received.
Parking brake is released.
Headlight dimmer switch is in the off or AUTO position (and the low beam headlights are not turned on via the automatic light control system).
When the turn signal light or hazard warning lights are illuminated, the daytime running light of the flashing light turns off. The daytime running light turns on again after the turn signal light or hazard warning lights are turned off.
FOLLOW ME HOME SYSTEM (w/ Follow Me Home System)
The follow me home system is designed to illuminate the low beam headlights for a certain period of time after the vehicle is parked.
This system is controlled by the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).
This system is enabled when the following conditions are met:
The power switch is off.
The headlight dimmer switch is in the off or AUTO position.
The headlight dimmer switch is pulled to flash the headlights once.
LANE CHANGE FLASHER SYSTEM
When moving the headlight dimmer switch (turn signal switch) to the lane change position (it is not necessary to hold the switch) during a lane change, the turn signal light flashes a specified number of times.
While the turn signal light is flashing after the headlight dimmer switch (turn signal switch) is moved to the lane change position (it is not necessary to hold the switch), the turn signal light turns off if the headlight dimmer switch (turn signal switch) is moved in the opposite direction.
The combination meter controls this system.
EMERGENCY BRAKE SIGNAL (w/ Emergency Brake Signal)
During emergency braking, the emergency brake signal flashes the hazard warning lights to alert other drivers and reduce the possibility of a rear-end collision.
AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL
General
When the low beam headlights are on, the automatic headlight beam level control operates the headlight leveling motor in accordance with movement of the vehicle. The headlight light control ECU sub-assembly controls the system.
Function of Main Components
| Component | Outline |
|---|---|
| Headlight Light Control ECU Sub-assembly | Receives various signals, calculates changes in the vehicle posture, and actuates the headlight leveling motor. |
| Headlight Leveling Motor | Based on the signals received from the headlight light control ECU sub-assembly, the motors move the reflectors in the headlight to vary the low beam. |
| Rear Height Control Sensor Sub-assembly LH | Transmits a height control sensor signal to the headlight light control ECU sub-assembly. |
| Brake Booster with Master Cylinder Assembly | Transmits speed sensor signals to the headlight light control ECU sub-assembly. |
| Main Body ECU (Multiplex Network Body ECU) | Transmits a headlight status signal. |
| Combination Meter Assembly | When the system malfunctions, the combination meter assembly alerts the driver by flashing the headlight leveling warning light in accordance with the signal from the headlight light control ECU sub-assembly. |
Note
Even if the headlight light control ECU sub-assembly RH is replaced with a new one, initialization is not necessary.
Initialize the headlight light control ECU sub-assembly LH (set the zero point of the height control sensor in the headlight light control ECU sub-assembly LH) after the vehicle height changes due to replacement of suspension components or after performing such operations as removal and reinstallation or replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly LH.
