CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
Note
When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.
When using a vise, do not overtighten it.
Tech Tips
Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
PROCEDURE
INSTALL OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT
| *a | Protective Tape |
Before installing the outboard joint boot, wrap the splines of the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly LH with protective tape to prevent the outboard joint boot from being damaged.
| *1 | Rear No. 2 Drive Shaft Outboard Joint Boot Clamp LH |
| *2 | Outboard Joint Boot |
| *3 | Rear Drive Shaft Outboard Joint Boot Clamp LH |
| *4 | Rear Drive Shaft Outboard Joint Shaft Assembly LH |
|
Outboard Joint Side |
|
Inboard Joint Side |
Install new parts to the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly LH in the following order.
Rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH
Outboard joint boot
Rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH
Install the outboard joint boot so that it is between the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH and rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly LH.
Temporarily install the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH to the outboard joint boot.
Pack the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly LH and outboard joint boot with grease from the boot kit.
| Standard Grease Capacity |
|---|
| 55.0 to 65.0 g (2.0 to 2.2 oz) |
Note
Do not apply grease to the part of the outboard joint boot that contacts the groove.
Do not allow foreign matter to enter the outboard joint boot.
INSTALL REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH
Install the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH to the outboard joint boot.
Note
Correctly set the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH to the guide groove.
Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, stake the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH
Note
Do not damage the outboard joint boot.
INSTALL REAR DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH
Install SST to the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH, and then while pressing the outboard joint boot, slightly tighten the SST bolt.
Note
Correctly set the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH to the guide groove.
Do not damage the outboard joint boot.
| *a | Turn |
| *b | Hold |
Tighten SST so that the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH is pinched.
| Standard Clearance |
|---|
| 1.2 mm (0.0472 in.) or less |
Note
When tightening SST, make sure the clearance of the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH is within the standard clearance.
Do not damage the outboard joint boot.
Remove SST from the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH.
Using SST, measure the clearance of the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH.
| Standard Clearance |
|---|
| 1.2 mm (0.0472 in.) or less |
Note
If the measured value exceeds the specified value, retighten the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH.
