AUTOMATIC HEADLIGHT BEAM LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM INITIALIZATION

Note


  • Synchronize the vehicle information when the headlight leveling ECU assembly is replaced with a new one.

  • Initialize the headlight leveling ECU assembly when the headlight leveling ECU assembly is replaced.

  • Initialize the headlight leveling ECU assembly (set the zero point of the height control sensor in the headlight leveling ECU assembly) after the vehicle height changes due to replacement of suspension components or after performing operations such as removal and reinstallation or replacement of the rear height control sensor sub-assembly.

  • Adjust the headlight aim after initializing the headlight leveling ECU assembly.

  • When a malfunction is detected in the automatic headlight beam level control system, rear height control sensor sub-assembly signal initialization is impossible. Perform troubleshooting before initialization.


  1. SYNCHRONIZE VEHICLE INFORMATION


    1. When using the GTS:


      1. Turn the ignition switch off.

      2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

        *A Multi-information Display (for Monochrome Type)
        *B Multi-information Display (for Color Type)

        Turn the ignition switch to ON and check that "CHECK HEADLIGHT SYSTEM"*1 or "Check Headlight System"*2 blinks continuously at 0.5 Hz on the multi-information display.

        • *2: Multi-information Display (for Color Type)

      4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / HL AutoLeveling / Utility / ECU Information Sync.


        Body Electrical > HL AutoLeveling > Utility
        Tester Display
        ECU Information Sync

      5. Check what is displayed on the screen of the GTS and press "Next".

      6. Check that "CHECK HEADLIGHT SYSTEM"*1 or "Check Headlight System"*2 blinks 6 times at 2 Hz on the multi-information display continuously.

        • *2: Multi-information Display (for Color Type)

      7. Press "Exit" and turn the ignition switch off.

        Note

        After synchronizing vehicle information, initialize the headlight leveling ECU assembly.

    2. When not using the GTS:


      1. A0028KRC01
        *A Multi-information Display (for Monochrome Type)
        *B Multi-information Display (for Color Type)

        Turn the ignition switch to ON and check that "CHECK HEADLIGHT SYSTEM"*1 or "Check Headlight System"*2 blinks continuously at 0.5 Hz on the multi-information display.

        • *2: Multi-information Display (for Color Type)

      2. Turn the low beam headlights on and off using the light control switch 8 times within 20 seconds of turning the ignition switch to ON.

        Note

        Turn the low beam headlights on and off at less than 2-second intervals.

        Tech Tips

        If the light control switch operation cannot be finished within 20 seconds, turn the ignition switch off. Then, turn the ignition switch to ON and restart the procedure.

      3. Check that "CHECK HEADLIGHT SYSTEM"*1 or "Check Headlight System"*2 blinks 6 times at 2 Hz on the multi-information display continuously.

        • *2: Multi-information Display (for Color Type)

      4. Turn the ignition switch off.

        Note

        After synchronizing vehicle information, initialize the headlight leveling ECU assembly.

  2. HEADLIGHT LEVELING ECU ASSEMBLY INITIALIZATION


    1. Prepare vehicle for initialization


      1. Unload the luggage compartment and vehicle, ensuring that the spare tire, tools and jack are in their original positions.

      2. Check that there are no occupants in the vehicle.

      3. Turn the headlights off.

      4. Stop the vehicle on a level surface and keep the vehicle height unchanged.

      Check the warning display on the multi-information display


      1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and check if "CHECK HEADLIGHT SYSTEM"*1 or "Check Headlight System"*2 is displayed on the multi-information display.

        • *2: Multi-information Display (for Color Type)


        • *1: Multi-information Display (for Monochrome Type)

        • *2: Multi-information Display (for Color Type)

        Tech Tips

        If the result is not as specified, check the harness and connector.

      2. Initialization (When using the GTS)


        1. Turn the ignition switch off.

        2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

        3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

        4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / HL AutoLeveling / Utility / Height Sensor Initialization.


          Body Electrical > HL AutoLeveling > Utility

    3. Check what is displayed on the screen of the GTS and press "Next".

      *a Fuel Receiver Gauge

      Check the proper "Position ID" determined by the fuel level according to the table below.

      Tech Tips

      Fuel Level Position ID Number of Times Headlight Leveling Warning Display Blinks
      Fuel level is within A range. EMPTY 1
      Fuel level is within B range. 1/4 to over EMPTY 2
      Fuel level is within C range. 1/2 to over 1/4 3
      Fuel level is within D range. 3/4 to over 1/2 4
      Fuel level is within E range. FULL to over 3/4 5

    5. Check what is displayed on the GTS, select the proper "Position ID" and press "Next".

    6. Press "Exit".

    7. Check the warning display on the multi-information display.

      Tech Tips


      • *: The number of times that the warning display blinks is determined by the "Position ID" selected.

      • If initialization does not finish normally, restart initialization from procedure (a).

    8. Check that initialization finishes normally and turn the ignition switch off.

    9. Initialization (When not using the GTS)


      1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Check the specified number of times to turn the low beam headlights on and off.

Tech Tips

The number of times the low beam headlights need to be turned on and off is determined by the present fuel level as shown below.

Fuel level is within B range. 2
Fuel level is within C range. 3
Fuel level is within D range. 4
Fuel level is within E range. 5

  • Turn the ignition switch off.

  • Turn the ignition switch to ON with the light control switch off.

  • Hold the dimmer switch in the high flash position, and turn the taillights on and off using the light control switch 3 times.

    Note

    Turn the taillights on and off within 5 seconds.

    Tech Tips

    When the switch operation is normal, the warning display blinks at 1 Hz.

  • Turn the low beam the specified number of times headlights on and off using the light control switch the specified number of time within 20 seconds.

    Tech Tips

    Turn the low beam headlights on and off at less than 3-second intervals.

  • Check the warning display on the multi-information display.

  • Check that initialization finishes normally and turn the ignition switch off.
