POWER BACK DOOR DRIVE UNIT INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The following procedure is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL POWER BACK DOOR UNIT SET ASSEMBLY

    Note

    Do not apply any horizontal load to the power back door unit set assembly in order to prevent it rod from deforming.


    1. Clean the bolt hole on the vehicle body and back door panel.

    2. Clean the bolt threads of the bolt.

    3. Apply adhesive to the threads of the bolt.

      Adhesive
      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent

    4. When replacing the power back door unit set assembly:


      1. A002BXB

        Install a new back door damper stay lower bracket with the 2 bolts.

        Torque:
        8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }
      2. A0028B0

        Install a new back door damper stay upper bracket with the 2 bolts.

        Torque:
        8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }
      3. A00272O

        Install the power back door unit set assembly to back door damper stay upper bracket.

        Note

        Install the power back door unit set assembly while supporting the back door by hand.

      4. A0027ZZ

        Check that the power back door unit set assembly is securely engaged to the ball joint and cannot be pulled off by pushing and pulling it as shown in the illustration.

        Note

        Check the power back door unit set assembly while supporting the back door by hand.

      5. A002AGV

        Install the power back door unit set assembly to back door damper stay lower bracket.

        Note

        Install the power back door unit set assembly while supporting the back door by hand.

      6. A002859

        Check that the power back door unit set assembly is securely engaged to the ball joint and cannot be pulled off by pushing and pulling it as shown in the illustration.

        Note

        Check the power back door unit set assembly while supporting the back door by hand.

      7. A0027TYC01
        *a Correct
        *b Incorrect

        Engage the grommet.

      8. Connect the connector.

      9. Initialize power back door system.

      10. A002BBQ

        Hold the back door fully open by hand and press the back door control switch.

      11. Make sure that the power back door unit set assembly does not come off of either ball joint.

    5. When reusing the power back door unit set assembly:


      1. A002BCP

        Install the power back door unit set assembly with the 4 bolts.

        Note

        Install the power back door unit set assembly while supporting the back door by hand.

        Torque:
        8.0 N*m  { 82 kgf*cm, 71 in.*lbf }
    6. A0027TYC01
      *a Correct
      *b Incorrect

      Engage the grommet.

    7. Connect the connector.
