PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM ADJUSTMENT

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL


    1. Completely release the parking brake pedal.

    2. Fully depress the parking brake pedal to engage the parking brake.

    3. Depress the parking brake pedal again to disengage the parking brake.

      Slowly depress the parking brake pedal using the specified force, and count the number of clicks.

      Parking Brake Pedal Travel
      8 to 11 notches at 300 N (31 kgf, 67.4 lbf)

      If the parking brake pedal travel is not as specified, adjust the parking brake shoe clearance and parking brake pedal travel.

  2. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL (for LHD)


    1. Completely release the parking brake pedal.

    2. Remove the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.

      *1 Lock Nut
      *2 No. 1 Wire Adjusting Nut

      Loosen the lock nut and No. 1 wire adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.

    4. Remove the rear wheels.

    5. Temporarily install the hub nuts to the hub bolts.

      Tech Tips

      Securely install the hub nuts to the rear disc.

    6. Remove the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug.

      B003Z8F Contract

      Turn the parking brake shoe adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.

    8. Turn and contract the parking brake shoe adjuster until the rear disc can rotate smoothly.

      Standard
      Returns 8 notches.
    9. Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.

    10. Operate the parking brake pedal 3 to 4 times.

    11. Turn the No. 1 wire adjusting nut until the parking brake pedal travel is corrected to be within the specified range.

      Parking Brake Pedal Travel
      8 to 11 notches at 300 N (31 kgf, 67.4 lbf)
    12. Using a wrench or an equivalent tool, hold the No. 1 wire adjusting nut and tighten the lock nut.

      Torque:
      7.0 N*m  { 71 kgf*cm, 62 in.*lbf }
    13. Operate the parking brake pedal 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake pedal travel.

      Parking Brake Pedal Travel
      8 to 11 notches at 300 N (31 kgf, 67.4 lbf)
    14. Install the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug.

    15. Check that the parking brake does not drag.

    16. Remove the hub nuts from the hub bolts.

    17. Install the rear wheels.

      Torque:
      103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
    18. Install the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.

  3. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE PEDAL TRAVEL (for RHD)


    1. Completely release the parking brake pedal.

    2. Remove the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.

      Use the same procedure as for LHD.

      Slowly depress the parking brake pedal 1-click.

      *1 Lock Nut
      *2 No. 1 Wire Adjusting Nut

      Loosen the lock nut and No. 1 wire adjusting nut to completely release the parking brake cable.

    5. Remove the rear wheels.

    6. Temporarily install the hub nuts to the hub bolts.

      Tech Tips

      Securely install the hub nuts to the rear disc.

    19. Install the No. 1 instrument panel under cover sub-assembly.

  4. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT


    1. When operating the parking brake pedal, check that the brake warning light illuminates.

      Standard
      The brake warning light always illuminates at the first click.
