KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

PROCEDURE

1. PRECAUTION

   CAUTION:

   Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing.

   Note

   After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

   CAUTION:

   Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

   Note

   When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

3. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE

4. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY

5. DISCONNECT FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP

   Tech Tips

   Disconnect the front door opening trim weatherstrip to the extent that allows the removal of the instrument panel finish panel end.

6. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL END

7. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

8. DISCONNECT HOOD LOCK CONTROL LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

   Click here

9. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY

10. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for LHD)

    CAUTION:

    When storing the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.

    
    

    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

       CAUTION:

       Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. 

       *a	Hook
       *b	Clamp

       Remove the 4 bolts.

    4. Disengage the 2 clamps and 3 hooks to separate the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly.

       Note

       When separating the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

    5. 

       *1	DLC3
       *a	Protective Tape
       *b	Airbag Connector
       *c	Airbag Connector Lock

       Disengage the 2 claws and clamp to disconnect the DLC3.

    6. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the airbag connector lock.

    7. Disconnect the airbag connector to remove the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly.

       Note

       When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

11. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for RHD)

    CAUTION:

    When storing the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.

    
    

    1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

       CAUTION:

       Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. 

       *a	Hook
       *b	Clamp

       Remove the 4 bolts.

    4. Disengage the 2 clamps and 3 hooks to separate the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly.

       Note

       When separating the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

    5. 

       *1	DLC3
       *a	Protective Tape
       *b	Airbag Connector
       *c	Airbag Connector Lock

       Disengage the 2 claws and clamp to disconnect the DLC3.

    6. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the airbag connector lock.

    7. Disconnect the airbag connector to remove the lower No. 1 instrument panel airbag assembly.

       Note

       When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
