AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SYSTEM INITIALIZATION

  1. RESET TRANSAXLE COMPENSATION CODE

    Note

    • If the following parts have been replaced, initialize the ECM and perform the following "Reset Memory" and "Perform Road Test to Allow ECM to learn" steps.

      - Valve body assembly

      - Shift solenoid valve SL3

      - Shift solenoid valve SL4

      - ECM

    • The transaxle compensation code can only be initialized with the GTS.

    Tech Tips

The ECM memorizes the condition that the ECT controls the automatic transaxle assembly according to those characteristics. Therefore, when the automatic transaxle assembly or ECM has been replaced, it is necessary to reset the memory so that the ECM can memorize the new information. The reset procedure is as follows:

    1. Move the shift lever to N or P.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Turn the GTS on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / A/T Code Reset.

      Powertrain > Engine > Utility
      Tester Display
      A/T Code Reset
    7. Press "Next" again to proceed.

      Note

After the transaxle compensation code is initialized, perform the following "Reset Memory" and "Perform Road Test to Allow ECM to learn" steps.

    8. Press "Exit".

  2. PERFORM ROAD TEST TO ALLOW ECM TO LEARN

    Note

Perform the following procedure while strictly observing all traffic laws and speed limits.

    1. Warm up the engine.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Turn the GTS on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Throttle Sensor Position.

Powertrain > Engine > Data List
      Tester Display
      Throttle Sensor Position
    7. From a standstill, achieve highest possible speed with the accelerator pedal opened 15% or less. Keep the accelerator pedal angle steady while driving the vehicle.

      Tech Tips

"Throttle Sensor Position": 15% or less

    8. Repeat the previous step until shift shock no longer occurs.

    9. From a standstill, achieve highest possible speed with the accelerator pedal opened 25% to 35%. Keep the accelerator pedal angle steady while driving the vehicle.

      Tech Tips

"Throttle Sensor Position": 25% to 35%

    10. Repeat the previous step until shift shock no longer occurs.

  3. RESET MEMORY

    Note

Reset Memory can be performed only with the GTS.

    Tech Tips

The ECM (ECT) memorizes the vehicle conditions when controlling the automatic transaxle assembly and engine assembly.

Therefore, when the automatic transaxle assembly, valve body assembly, shift solenoid valve SL3, shift solenoid valve SL4, or ECM has been replaced, it is necessary to reset the memory so that the ECM can memorize the new information. The reset procedure is as follows:

    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Turn the GTS on.

    5. Enter the following menus: "Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Reset Memory". Then, press "Next".

      Powertrain > Engine > Utility
      Tester Display
      Reset Memory

      Note

After performing Reset Memory, be sure to perform "Perform Road Test to Allow ECM to Learn" described earlier.
