EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT FUEL CUT OPERATION

    1. Start the engine.

    2. Warm up the engine.

    3. Increase the engine speed to approximately 3500 rpm.

      *1 Fuel Injector Assembly
      *a Sound Scope

Use a sound scope to check for fuel injector assembly operating sounds.

    5. When the accelerator pedal is fully released, check that fuel injector assembly operating sounds stop momentarily and then resume.

      Standard
      Item Specified Condition
Fuel injection restart engine speed 1400 rpm

If the result is not as specified, check the fuel injector assembly, wire harness and ECM.

  2. VISUALLY CHECK HOSES, CONNECTIONS AND GASKETS

    1. Check the hoses and gaskets for scratches, cracks or air/oil leaks from the connecting parts.

      Tech Tips

If the hoses or gaskets are damaged or any of the connections are loose, they may cause an engine stall or malfunction.

  3. INSPECT EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. A002960

Disconnect the fuel vapor feed hose assembly from the purge valve (purge VSV).

    3. Start the engine.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Activate the VSV for Evap Control.

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
      Tester Display
Activate the VSV for Evap Control
    5. Check that vacuum occurs at the purge valve (purge VSV) port.

    6. If vacuum does not occur, check the following items.

      • Purge valve (purge VSV)

      • Clogging in the fuel vapor feed hose assembly that connects the intake manifold and purge valve (purge VSV).

      • Voltage from the ECM PRG terminal.

    7. Exit Active Test mode and reconnect the fuel vapor feed hose assembly.

If the result is not as specified, replace the purge valve (purge VSV), wire harness or ECM.

    8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / EVAP (Purge) VSV.

Powertrain > Engine > Data List
      Tester Display
      EVAP (Purge) VSV
    9. Warm up the engine and drive the vehicle.

    10. Confirm that the purge valve (purge VSV) opens.

If the result is not as specified, replace the purge valve (purge VSV), wire harness or ECM.
