GRILLE SHUTTER SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION


  1. GRILLE SHUTTER SYSTEM

    The swing grille actuator assembly receives signals from the air conditioning amplifier assembly via LIN communication. Based on the received signal, the swing grille actuator assembly operates the radiator shutter sub-assembly. When a malfunction occurs in the grille shutter system, a message is displayed on the multi-information display indicating the malfunction and the operation is prohibited.


    1. Maintenance Mode


      • If the swing grille actuator assembly is replaced with a new one, the system switches to maintenance mode (DTC B1333 is stored), a message is displayed on the multi-information display indicating the malfunction and the operation is prohibited.

      • In order to cancel maintenance mode, perform "Change Radiator Shutter Control State".

    2. Description of Operations

      Item Description
      Normal closing operation

      • When the engine coolant temperature is low, the grille shutter is closed.

      • When driving at high speeds and when it is determined that damage to the engine caused by heat will not occur, the grille shutter is closed.
      Normal opening operation

      • When the ambient temperature and/or the engine coolant temperature is high, the grille shutter is opened.

      • When using the air conditioner, the grille shutter is opened.
      Opening operation when turning power switch off When the power switch is turned off, the grille shutter is opened.
      Opening operation retry When a stuck malfunction occurs, the grille shutter is opened.
      Opening and closing operation while power switch is on (IG)

      • If a message indicating a malfunction was displayed the last time the power switch was on (IG), the grille shutter is closed and then opened to check for malfunctions (this does not include messages displayed due to entering maintenance mode).

      • If there is no history of a normal opening operation the last time the power switch was on (IG), the grille shutter is closed and then opened to check for malfunctions.
      Opening and closing operation when engine coolant temperature rises If the engine coolant temperature is high while the grille shutter remains opened or closed, or when the operation is prohibited, the grille shutter is closed and then opened to check for malfunctions.
      Opening and closing operation when maintenance mode is canceled If a vehicle speed signal is input during maintenance mode, the grille shutter is closed and then opened to check for malfunctions and maintenance mode is canceled.
