LIGHTING SYSTEM PRECAUTION

  1. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the cable is reconnected:

  2. PRECAUTION FOR HID HEADLIGHT SYSTEM

    1. When the light control switch is in the head position, a high voltage (approximately 30000 V) is applied momentarily to the bulb socket. Never touch the high voltage socket of a High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlight as this may result in a serious accident due to the high voltage.

    2. Never connect a tester to the high voltage socket of a High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlight for measurement as this may result in a serious accident due to the high voltage.

    3. Take care to avoid being burned by the light control ECU, as it may be hot when the light control switch is in the head position or right after the switch is turned off.

    4. When servicing an HID headlight, perform it under the following conditions:

      1. At a place where an HID headlight does not come in contact with water, such as rain, to avoid an electric shock.

      2. The light control switch is off.

      3. The light control ECU temperature is sufficiently low.

      4. The cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal and the headlight assembly connector is disconnected to block power supply to the light control ECU.

    5. When servicing an HID headlight, only turn on the HID headlights after assembly is complete. Never turn on the HID headlights without a bulb installed.

    6. Do not turn on the HID headlights using a power source other than the vehicle battery.

    7. When the HID headlight (especially the light control ECU) has any of the following types of damage, replace it with a new one.

      1. Deformation (distortion, cracks, dents, etc.) of the light control ECU

      2. Cracks on the resin part of the connector or high voltage socket, or deformation of terminals

      3. Loose connection with ground on the reflector side due to deformation of the socket cover

      4. Damage on the output wire harness

        Tech Tips

When the HID headlights are malfunctioning, the headlights are turned off by the fail-safe function even when their operation temporarily returns to normal.

    8. Even if an HID headlight bulb illuminates temporarily, as it may turn off or flicker again, perform troubleshooting for the HID headlight bulb.

    9. The light color emitted by an HID headlight bulb varies according to the age of the bulb.

  3. PRECAUTION FOR HEADLIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT

    1. If even a thin film of oil is left on the surface of an HID headlight bulb or a halogen bulb, its service life will be shortened because the light will burn at a higher temperature. When replacing a bulb, be sure to hold the flanged part of the light so that your hand does not contact the glass part of the bulb.

    2. Due to the high internal pressure of HID headlight bulbs, they may explode and shatter if dropped, hit or damaged.

    3. Always prepare a new bulb for immediate replacement. While replacing the bulb, the lens may attract dust and moisture if removed from the vehicle for a long time.

    4. Always replace a bulb with another bulb of the same wattage.

    5. If only replacing the bulb on one side, differences in brightness and lighting color between the right and left sides may occur.

    6. Securely install the socket after bulb replacement. The lens may become cloudy or the light cavity may be filled with water through gaps around the socket if it is not installed securely.

    7. Do not break the HID headlight bulb when disposing of it as shards of glass may fly off and cause injuries.

    8. It is not possible to determine if an HID headlight bulb is defective by checking it visually. Check the bulb by replacing it with a known good one.

  4. PRECAUTION FOR LIGHT BULB REPLACEMENT

    1. This vehicle is equipped with a semiconductor pwr integration ECU as a device to cut off a circuit if there is an overcurrent. When there is too much current, the semiconductor pwr integration ECU does not melt like a fuse, but instead opens and returns to normal when the power switch is turned off. Therefore, if a bulb connected to the semiconductor pwr integration ECU is replaced with a non-genuine bulb or a bulb that is not designed for the vehicle, the bulb may not function as the current may be cut off.
