ASC SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. ASC SYSTEM

    1. The ASC system uses the stereo component equalizer assembly to generate driving sounds electrically. These sounds are output as simulated engine sounds from the No. 1 speaker assembly with box.

The simulated engine sounds are calculated in accordance with vehicle information, such as the drive mode, vehicle speed, shift lever position and accelerator pedal opening angle. By operating the vehicle sound switch, the sounds can be turned on/off and volume can be adjusted.

    2. The following 3 types of sounds can be output.

      Sound Description
      Idling sound
      • Sounds resembling the engine sound heard when the vehicle is stopped and idling are output.

      • When the vehicle is stopped or creeping at less than 13 km/h (8 mph), this sound is output.

      Driving sound
      • Sounds resembling the engine sound heard when the vehicle is being driven (including gear change sounds) are output.

      • When the vehicle is driven at a speed of 13 km/h (8 mph) or more, this sound is output.

      Afterfire sound
      • A sound resembling the sound heard when unburned gasoline is burned in the exhaust pipe is output.

      • When the accelerator pedal is depressed and released quickly, this sound is output.

      1. Idling sound output conditions

        Item Condition Remark
Drive mode NORMAL or SPORT mode

The following conditions must be met:

NORMAL mode: Vehicle is driven at a speed of 13 km/h (8 mph) or more until driving sounds are output. When the vehicle speed is less than 13 km/h (8 mph), idling sound is output.

SPORT mode: When the vehicle is driven at a speed of 0.1 km/h or after the power switch is turned on (READY), with the shift lever in P, the accelerator pedal is depressed to start the engine, idling sound is output.

        Accelerating: less than 13 km/h (8 mph)

        Decelerating: 11 km/h (7 mph) or less

Under these conditions, the vehicle is judged as creeping and idling sound will be output

  2. FUNCTION OF MAIN COMPONENTS

The ASC system consists of the following components:

    Component Function
    Stereo component equalizer assembly
    • Receives signals, such as accelerator pedal opening angle, shift lever position, driving mode and drive force, from the hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly via CAN communication and creates simulated engine sounds.

    • Sends a simulated engine sound signal to the No. 1 speaker assembly with box.

No. 1 speaker assembly with box Outputs simulated engine sounds into the cabin according to the signal sent by the stereo component equalizer assembly.
    Vehicle sound switch
    • Sends an ASC system on/off signal to the stereo component equalizer assembly.

    • Adjusts the volume of the simulated engine sounds output by the No. 1 speaker assembly with box.

Hybrid vehicle control ECU assembly Sends signals, such as accelerator pedal opening angle, shift lever position, driving mode and drive force to the stereo component equalizer assembly via CAN communication.
Skid control ECU assembly Sends vehicle speed signals to the stereo component equalizer assembly via CAN communication.
