REAR BRAKE INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the LH side and RH side.

  • The following procedure is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL REAR DISC


    1. When reusing the rear disc:


      1. A01MTCIC01
        *a Matchmark

        Align the matchmarks of the rear disc and rear axle hub and bearing assembly, and install the rear disc.

    2. When replacing the rear disc:


      1. Inspect the rear disc runout.

        Click here

      2. Select the installation position where the rear disc has minimal runout, and install the rear disc.

    3. Temporarily install the hub nut.

  2. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG


    1. Install the parking brake shoe adjusting hole plug to rear disc.

  3. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING


    1. Install 2 new rear No. 1 disc brake caliper plates to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

    2. Install the rear disc brake cylinder mounting to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      125 N*m  { 1275 kgf*cm, 92 ft.*lbf }
  4. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE BUSHING DUST BOOT


    1. A01MTWXC01
      B003YLR Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease

      Apply a light layer of lithium soap base glycol grease to the entire circumference of 2 new rear disc brake bushing dust boots.

      Tech Tips

      Apply more than 0.3 g (0.01 oz.) of lithium soap base glycol grease to each rear disc brake bushing dust boot.

    2. Install the 2 rear disc brake bushing dust boots to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

  5. INSTALL REAR NO. 1 DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN


    1. A01MRTSC01
      B003YLR Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease

      Apply a light layer of lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding part and the sealing surfaces of the rear No. 1 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

    2. Install the rear No. 1 disc brake cylinder slide pin to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

    3. Push the rear No. 1 disc brake cylinder slide pin into the rear disc brake bushing dust boot to engage the pin to the boot.

  6. INSTALL REAR NO. 2 DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN


    1. A01MSWHC01
      B003YLR Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease

      Apply a light layer of lithium soap base glycol grease to the contact surface of the rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

    2. Install a new rear disc brake cylinder slide bushing to the rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

    3. A01MRIEC01
      B003YLR Lithium Soap Base Glycol Grease

      Apply a light layer of lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding part and the sealing surfaces of the rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin.

    4. Install the rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

    5. Push the rear No. 2 disc brake cylinder slide pin into the rear disc brake bushing dust boot to engage the pin to the boot.

  7. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE


    1. A01MTC8C01
      *1 Rear No. 1 Disc Brake Pad Support Plate
      *2 Rear No. 2 Disc Brake Pad Support Plate

      Install the 2 rear No. 1 disc brake pad support plates and 2 rear No. 2 disc brake pad support plates to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

      Note

      Be sure to install each rear disc brake pad support plate in the correct position and direction.

  8. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM KIT

    Note


    • When replacing worn rear disc brake pads, the rear disc brake anti-squeal shim kit must be replaced together with the rear disc brake pads.

    • Install each rear disc brake pad wear indicator plate in the correct position and direction.

    • Install the rear disc brake anti-squeal shims in the correct positions and directions.


    1. for Solid Disc:


      1. A01MTLTC01
        *1 Rear No. 1 Disc Brake Anti-squeal Shim
        *2 Rear No. 2 Disc Brake Anti-squeal Shim
        *3 Rear Disc Brake Pad Wear Indicator Plate

        Install the rear No. 1 disc brake anti-squeal shim to each rear disc brake pad.

      2. Install the rear No. 2 disc brake anti-squeal shim to the rear disc brake pad (inside).

      3. Install the rear disc brake pad wear indicator plate to each rear disc brake pad.

    2. for Ventilated Disc:


      1. A01MSXTC01
        B003XUN Upper of the Vehicle
        A0021RS Chamfer

        Check the shape of the rear disc brake pad.

        Note

        The chamfered side of the lining is positioned on the upper side of the vehicle.

      2. A01MSTHC01
        *1 Rear No. 1 Disc Brake Anti-squeal Shim
        *2 Rear No. 2 Disc Brake Anti-squeal Shim
        *3 Rear Disc Brake Pad Wear Indicator Plate

        Install the rear No. 1 disc brake anti-squeal shim and rear No. 2 disc brake anti-squeal shim to each rear disc brake pad.

      3. Install the rear disc brake pad wear indicator plate to each rear disc brake pad.

  9. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD


    1. Install the 2 rear disc brake pads to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting.

      Note

      There should be no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the disc brake pads or the rear disc.

  10. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY


    1. Hold the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins and install the rear disc brake cylinder assembly to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      26.5 N*m  { 270 kgf*cm, 20 ft.*lbf }
  11. CONNECT REAR FLEXIBLE HOSE


    1. Connect the rear flexible hose to the rear disc brake cylinder assembly with a new union bolt and a new gasket.

      Torque:
      39.2 N*m  { 400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Install the rear flexible hose lock securely into the lock hole in the rear disc brake cylinder assembly.

  12. INSTALL ABS MOTOR RELAY

    Tech Tips

    Perform this procedure if air bleeding is not necessary.


    1. With the power switch off, install the 2 ABS motor relays (ABS motor No. 1 relay and ABS motor No. 2 relay).

    2. Clear the DTCs.

  13. BLEED BRAKE LINE

  14. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

    Click here

  15. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

    Torque:
    103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }
