Before disassembly, clean the outside of the differential assembly and remove any sand or mud to prevent it from entering the inside of the assembly during disassembly and installation.
When removing an installed part made of light alloy such as the differential carrier cover, tap it off with a plastic hammer. Do not attempt to pry it off with a screwdriver.
Always arrange disassembled parts in order and protect them from dust.
Before installation, thoroughly clean and dry each part and then apply differential gear oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent to them. Do not use alkaline cleaner for aluminum or rubber parts and ring gear set bolts. Also, do not clean rubber parts such as oil seals with non-residue solvent.
Coat sliding surfaces and rotating parts with differential gear oil LT 75W-85 GL-5 or equivalent.
When holding a part in a vise, be sure to place aluminum plates between the part and vise. Do not put it directly in the vise.
Do not damage the sealing surfaces of the case. Such damage may cause oil leakage.
Do not add oil within 1 hour or allow rapid acceleration or deceleration within 12 hours of installing sealed parts.
Damage to surfaces in contact with an oil seal or gasket may cause oil leakage.
When press-fitting an oil seal, do not damage the oil seal lip or outside periphery.
When replacing a bearing, replace the inner and outer races as a set.
When replacing a hypoid gear, replace the ring gear and drive pinion as a set.
