REMOVE INTAKE VALVE

Type A and type B can be distinguished by the shape of the inner compression spring.

Type A:
Using SST, compress the 8 inner compression springs and remove the 16 valve spring retainer locks.
Tech Tips
Arrange the removed parts in the correct order.
Remove the 8 valve spring retainers, 8 inner compression springs and 8 intake valves.

Type B:
Using SST, compress the 8 inner compression springs and remove the 16 valve spring retainer locks.

REMOVE INTAKE VALVE STEM OIL SEAL
Using needle-nose pliers, remove the 8 intake valve stem oil seals.
REMOVE EXHAUST VALVE STEM OIL SEAL
Using needle-nose pliers, remove the 8 exhaust valve stem oil seals.
REMOVE VALVE SPRING SEAT

Using compressed air and a magnet hand, remove the 16 valve spring seats by blowing air onto them.
REMOVE NO. 1 STRAIGHT SCREW PLUG
Note
If coolant leaks from a No. 1 straight screw plug or a No. 1 straight screw plug is corroded, replace it.
Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the 3 No. 1 straight screw plugs and 3 cylinder head screw plug gaskets.
REMOVE STUD BOLT
Note
If a stud bolt is deformed or its threads are damaged, replace it.
