REFRIGERANT SHORTAGE CHECK IN NORMAL OPERATION (CHECK A/C SWITCH INDICATOR AND DTC)
Turn the power switch on (READY).
Check that the A/C switch indicator remains on when the following conditions are met.
| *A | for LHD | *B | for RHD |
| Item | Condition |
|---|---|
| A/C switch | On |
| A/C operation time | 15 minutes or more |
| Ambient temperature* | 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F) |
| Engine coolant temperature | 45°C (113°F) or more |
*: If the ambient temperature is not within the range shown, do not perform this check.
Tech Tips
The A/C switch indicator and air conditioning system turn off if the amount of refrigerant in the system is insufficient.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Check for DTC B14B8.
| Result | Amount of Refrigerant | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| DTC B14B8 is output | Empty or nearly empty | Check for refrigerant leaks using a halogen leak detector, and repair if necessary. |
| DTC B14B8 is not output | Correct or insufficient | Perform a refrigerant shortage check using the GTS. |
REFRIGERANT SHORTAGE CHECK USING GTS
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the power switch on (READY).
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Air Conditioner / Utility / Refrigerant Gas Volume Check.
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Refrigerant Gas Volume Check |
According to the display on the GTS, perform the refrigerant shortage check when the following conditions are met.
| Item | Condition |
|---|---|
| A/C switch | On |
| Ambient temperature* | 0 to 49°C (32 to 120°F) |
| Blower speed | HI |
*: If the ambient temperature is not within the range shown, do not perform this check.
Tech Tips
Refer to the GTS operator's manual for further details.
A message indicating a refrigerant shortage is displayed on the GTS and the air conditioning system turns off if the amount of refrigerant in the system is insufficient.
DTCs are not stored when performing the refrigerant shortage check using the GTS.
| Result | Amount of Refrigerant | Corrective Action |
|---|---|---|
| Refrigerant shortage | Insufficient or leakage |
|
| Refrigerant correct | Correct | - |
INSPECT ENERGY CONSERVATION AIRFLOW CONTROL
Inspect the energy conservation airflow control when the following conditions are met. [*1]
| Item | Condition |
|---|---|
| Vehicle body | Vehicle stopped in the shade |
| Doors | Fully open |
| Blower speed | Low or more |
| A/C switch | On |
Under the conditions in step [*1], set the air conditioning to AUTO mode and allow the blower vent temperature to stabilize (approximately 5 to 6 minutes).
Check the energy conservation airflow control.
| *A | for LHD | *B | for RHD |
When the S-FLOW switch is turned on, check that the indicator light illuminates, air stops blowing out of the rear registers and continues blowing out of the side and front center registers.
When the S-FLOW switch is turned off, check that the indicator light turns off and the energy conservation airflow control is cancelled.
