COOLANT REPLACEMENT

PROCEDURE

  1. DRAIN COOLANT (for Intercooler)

    CAUTION:

Do not remove the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Remove the engine under cover.

      *a Vinyl Tube

Install a vinyl tube to the drain cock plug (for Intercooler).

    3. A01MY8NC01
*1 Reserve Tank Cap (for Intercooler)
*2 Drain Cock Plug (for Intercooler)

Loosen the drain cock plug (for Intercooler) and drain the coolant (for Intercooler).

      Tech Tips

Collect the coolant in a container and dispose of it according to the regulations in your area.

    4. Remove the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler).

    5. Tighten the drain cock plug (for Intercooler) by hand.

    6. Remove the vinyl tube from the drain cock plug (for Intercooler).

    7. Install the engine under cover.

  2. ADD COOLANT (for Intercooler)

    CAUTION:

Do not remove the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. When using the GTS:

      1. Slowly pour coolant into the intercooler reserve tank assembly.

        Standard Capacity
3.0 liters (3.2 US qts, 2.6 Imp. qts)

        Note

Do not substitute plain water for coolant.

        Tech Tips

LEXUS vehicles are filled with TOYOTA SLLC at the factory. In order to avoid damaging the engine cooling system and other technical problems, only use TOYOTA SLLC or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology (coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology is a combination of low phosphates and organic acids).

      2. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      3. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Intercooler Water Pump

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
        Tester Display
        Control the Intercooler Water Pump

        *a F Line

While adding coolant so that the coolant level is kept near the F line, activate the electric water pump assembly for approximately 1 minute and then stop pump operation for 1 minute. Repeat this operation approximately 3 times until the operation sound of the electric water pump assembly reduces and no more bubbles are visible in the intercooler reserve tank assembly or the coolant level in the intercooler reserve tank assembly stabilizes.

        OK
The operation sound of the electric water pump assembly reduces and no more bubbles are visible in the intercooler reserve tank assembly or the coolant level in the intercooler reserve tank assembly stabilizes.

        Tech Tips

If the intercooler reserve tank assembly is filled excessively with coolant, coolant may spill out when the electric water pump assembly is stopped.

      6. When no more bubbles are visible in the intercooler reserve tank assembly or the coolant level in the intercooler reserve tank assembly has stabilized, add coolant to the F line, and install the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler).

    2. When not using the GTS:

      1. Slowly pour coolant into the intercooler reserve tank assembly.

        Standard Capacity
3.0 liters (3.2 US qts, 2.6 Imp. qts)

        Note

Do not substitute plain water for coolant.

      2. Install the reserve tank cap (for Intercooler). [*1]

      3. Start the engine. [*2]

      4. Operate the electric water pump assembly by running the engine at 2000 rpm or higher with the shift lever in N or P for 1 minute and then stop pump operation for 1 minute. Repeat this operation approximately 3 times until the operation sound of the electric water pump assembly reduces and no more bubbles are visible in the intercooler reserve tank assembly or the coolant level in the intercooler reserve tank assembly stabilizes. [*3]

        CAUTION:

        • Be careful as the radiator hoses are hot.

        • Keep your hands away from the cooling fan.

        Note

        • Make sure that the coolant level in the intercooler reserve tank assembly does not drop below the L line when the engine speed is 2000 rpm or higher.

        • Immediately after starting the engine, if the intercooler reserve tank assembly runs out of coolant, stop the engine, wait until the coolant has cooled down, and add coolant until it reaches the F line.

      5. Stop the engine and wait until the coolant has cooled down to ambient temperature. [*4]

      6. Check that the coolant level is between the F and L line.[*5]

If the coolant level is below the L line, add coolant to the intercooler reserve tank assembly until it reaches the F line, and repeat steps from [*1] to [*5].

If the coolant level is above the F line, drain coolant so that the coolant level is between the F and L line.

  3. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK (for Intercooler)
