SFI SYSTEM Starter Signal Circuit

DESCRIPTION

While the engine is being cranked, current flows from terminal STAR of the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) to the park/neutral position switch assembly and to terminal STA of the ECM (STA signal).

  1. CHECK WHETHER ENGINE CAN BE CRANKED


    1. Check if the engine can be cranked.

  2. READ VALUE USING GTS (STARTER SIGNAL)


    1. Connect the GTS to DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Starter Signal.


      Powertrain > Engine > Data List

      Starter Signal
    5. Check the value displayed on the GTS when the engine switch is turned to the on (IG) and the engine is started.

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST NO. 1 RELAY - STARTER ASSEMBLY)


    1. Remove the ST NO. 1 relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block and N0. 2 junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect the starter assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 (ST NO. 1 relay) - F19-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      3 (ST NO. 1 relay) or F19-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    1. Disconnect the starter assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Remove the ST NO. 1 relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block and N0. 2 junction block assembly.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Remove the ST NO. 1 relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block and N0. 2 junction block assembly.

    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    3. Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Remove the ST NO. 1 relay from the No. 2 engine room relay block and N0. 2 junction block assembly.

    4. Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.

    5. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      F54-5 (L) - A77-20 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      F54-5 (L) or A77-20 (STA) or 2 (ST NO. 1 relay) or A13-12 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
