PROCEDURE

1. CHECK ILLUMINATION DURATION OF GLOW INDICATOR LIGHT

   
   

   1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and measure the duration of time that the light remains illuminated.

      Light illumination duration
      Refer to the graph and table

      Standard Light Illumination Time
      Engine Coolant Temperature Specified Condition -20°C (-4°F) 10 to 12 seconds -15°C (5°F) 6.0 to 8.0 seconds 0°C (32°F) 3.0 to 5.0 seconds 35°C (95°F) 0.45 to 1.0 seconds

      Engine Coolant Temperature

      If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plugs and glow plug relay.

2. CHECK PRE-HEATING

   
   

   1. Turn the ignition switch to ON and measure the length of time that battery voltage is applied to the glow plugs.

      Standard Pre-Heating Time
      Engine Coolant Temperature Pre-Heating Time 40°C (104°F) or higher 1 second 40°C (104°F) or less Refer to the graph*a (Maximum 15 seconds)

      *a: Pre-heating time changes depending on battery voltage.

      If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plugs and glow plug relay.

3. CHECK AFTER GLOW TIME

   
   
   1. 

      *a	Front view of wire harness connector (to Glow Plug Relay)

      Remove the glow plug relay.

   2. After the engine starts, measure the length of time that battery voltage remains present.

      Standard After Glow Time

      If the result is not as specified, check the ECM, engine coolant temperature sensor, glow plugs and glow plug relay.
