AIRBAG SYSTEM(w/ Occupant Classification System) SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. GENERAL

    1. Deceleration sensors used for the airbag system are installed on various parts of the vehicle and calculate the deceleration rate of each part during a collision.

    2. Depending on the situation, the airbag sensor assembly sends a deployment signal to each airbag based on the information from each sensor.

  2. DEPLOYMENT CONDITION

    1. FRONTAL COLLISION

      A00YU5WE03

      1. Frontal collision signals are produced based on the information from the airbag sensor assembly and front airbag sensors.

        Tech Tips

In case of a frontal collision, the SRS ignition signal could be output with the deceleration sensor ON signal even without a signal from the front airbag sensors.

      2. Frontal collision signals are used to deploy the airbags and pretensioners in the illustration.

    2. SIDE COLLISION (1)

      A00YWLZE01

      1. Side collision (Pattern 1) signals are produced based on the information from the airbag sensor assembly and door side airbag sensor.

      2. Side collision (Pattern 1) signals are used to deploy the airbags and pretensioners in the illustration.

    3. SIDE COLLISION (2)

      A00YTP1E01

      1. Side collision (Pattern 2) signals are produced based on the information from the airbag sensor assembly and rear airbag sensor.

      2. Side collision (Pattern 2) signals are used to deploy the airbags and pretensioners in the illustration.

    4. The airbag sensor assembly contains a roll rate sensor and roll rate sensor (that determine the inclination angle the vehicle) and a lateral deceleration sensor (that determine the lateral force that is applied to the vehicle). These sensors detect the vehicle's roll angle (a), rotational speed (b), and lateral acceleration speed (c). Based on the information obtained from sensors, the airbag sensor makes an overall judgment of the vehicle's roll angle (a), rotational speed (b), and lateral acceleration speed (c). If the airbag sensor determines that the vehicle has rolled over due to cause other than the side collision, it deploys the right and left curtain shield airbag and the front right and left seat belt pretensioner.
