PROCEDURE
DRAIN TRANSFER OIL
Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
| *1 | No. 2 Transfer Case Plug (for filler) |
| *2 | Transfer Drain Plug |
Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler) and gasket.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, remove the transfer drain plug and gasket and drain the transfer oil.
Using a 10 mm hexagon socket wrench, install a new gasket and the drain plug.
ADD TRANSFER OIL
Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler) and gasket.
Add transfer oil.
| Oil grade |
|---|
| Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LT API GL-5 or equivalent |
| Viscosity |
|---|
| SAE 75W-85 |
| *a | 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) |
Pour oil so that the oil level is between 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) from the bottom lip of the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler) hole.
Note
When adding oil, pour it slowly.
Add oil a little at a time, waiting several minutes between each addition of oil.
Too much or too little oil will lead to transfer problems.
| Standard Capacity |
|---|
| 0.40 to 0.50 liters (0.43 to 0.52 US qts, 0.36 to 0.44 Imp.qts) |
Wait approximately 5 minutes and check that the oil level has not changed.
| *1 | 10 mm Straight Hexagon Wrench |
| *2 | 12 mm Hexagon Socket Wrench |
| *3 | 10 x 12 mm Long Offset Wrench |
Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench, 12 mm hexagon socket wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, install a new gasket into the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler) and then install the No. 2 transfer case plug (for filler).
Note
Use the formula to calculate special torque values for situations where a offset wrench is combined with a torque wrench Click here.
After adding oil, drive the vehicle and recheck the oil level.
Tech Tips
When tightening, combine the offset wrench with the torque wrench so that they are in a straight line.
