AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL

If automatic transmission parts are replaced, refer to the Parts Replacement Compensation Table to determine if any additional operations are necessary.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY SETTING BOLT


    1. A01KC65

      Remove the flywheel housing under cover.

    2. A01KAM2N02

      Using SST, hold the crankshaft pulley.

    3. A01KD4J

      Remove the 6 drive plate and torque converter assembly setting bolts.

  2. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY WITH TRANSAXLE

  3. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

  4. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS


    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable from the automatic transaxle assembly.

    2. Detach the 5 wire harness clamps.

    3. Turn the lock lever and disconnect the connector from the wiring harness connector.

    4. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

  5. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET


    1. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 wire harness clamp bracket.

  6. REMOVE BREATHER HOSE BRACKET


    1. A01KDBU

      Detach the transmission breather hose sub-assembly from the breather hose bracket.

    2. A01KCVK

      Remove the bolt and breather hose bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  7. REMOVE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR


    1. A01KBYR

      Remove the 2 bolts and wiring harness connector from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  8. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER


    1. A01KAP0

      Slide the clips and disconnect the oil cooler inlet hose and oil cooler outlet hose from the automatic transaxle assembly.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts and transmission oil cooler from the front engine mounting bracket.

  9. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET

      Remove the 4 bolts and front engine mounting bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  10. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET


    1. A01KCZ9

      Remove the 3 bolts and rear engine mounting bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  11. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH


    1. A01KB8H

      Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting bracket LH from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  12. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 transmission control cable bracket from the automatic transaxle assembly.

  13. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE PLUG ASSEMBLY


    1. A01KBQI

      Remove the transmission case plug assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the transmission case plug assembly.

  14. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY


    1. A01KBYD

      Remove the 9 bolts and automatic transaxle assembly.

      Note

      To prevent damage to the knock pins, do not pry between the automatic transaxle assembly and engine.

  15. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.

      Note

      Make sure to remove the torque converter assembly horizontally from the input shaft.

  16. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY

  17. REMOVE TRANSFER AND TRANSAXLE SETTING STUD BOLT

    1. Remove the 2 transfer and transaxle setting stud bolts.

      Tech Tips

      It is not necessary to remove the transfer and transaxle setting stud bolts unless they are being replaced.

  18. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
