STARTER DISASSEMBLY

PROCEDURE

1. REMOVE MAGNET STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

   

   
   

   1. Remove the nut and disconnect the lead wire from terminal C.

   2. 

      Remove the 2 nuts from the starter drive housing assembly while holding the magnet starter switch assembly.

   3. 

      *1	Hook
      *2	Drive Lever

      Pull the magnet starter switch assembly and while lifting the front part of the magnet starter switch assembly, release the plunger hook from the drive lever and remove the magnet starter switch assembly.

2. REMOVE STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. 

      Remove the 2 through bolts and pull out the starter commutator end frame assembly together with the starter armature assembly.

3. REMOVE STARTER BRUSH HOLDER ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. 

      Remove the 2 screws and, while holding down the lead wire, remove the starter commutator end frame assembly.

   2. 

      Remove the starter brush holder assembly.

      
      

      1. for Starter Yoke Side:

         Using a screwdriver, pry the springs and disconnect the 2 brushes from the starter brush holder assembly.

      2. 

         for Brush Holder Side:

         Using a screwdriver, pry the end of the spring away from each brush and pull out the 2 brushes from the starter brush holder assembly so that they are held in place by the springs.

      3. Remove the starter brush holder assembly.

4. REMOVE STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. Remove the starter armature assembly from the starter yoke assembly.

5. REMOVE STARTER CENTER BEARING CLUTCH SUB-ASSEMBLY

   

   
   

   1. Remove the drive lever and the starter center bearing clutch sub-assembly with shock absorber from the starter drive housing assembly.

   2. 

      Using a screwdriver, tap in the stop collar toward the starter center bearing clutch sub-assembly.

   3. 

      Using a screwdriver, pry off the snap ring.

   4. Remove the stop collar and starter center bearing clutch sub-assembly from the planetary shaft.
