COOLING FAN SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Tech Tips

It is normal for the cooling fan to sometimes rotate when the ignition switch is turned to ON.

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT COOLING FAN MOTOR (Below 94°C (201°F))

    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON with the A/C switch off.

    2. Check that the cooling fans are stopped.

If not, check the cooling fan relay and engine coolant temperature sensor, and check whether there is disconnection or an open circuit between them.

    3. A00YUUF

Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.

    4. Check that the cooling fans operate.

If not, check the fuses, cooling fan relay, ECM and cooling fans, and check for a short circuit between the cooing fan relay and engine coolant temperature sensor.

    5. Reconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.

  2. INSPECT COOLING FAN MOTOR (Above 96°C (205°F))

    1. Start the engine, and raise the engine coolant temperature to above 96°C (205°F).

    2. Check that the A/C switch is off.

    3. Check that the cooling fans operate.

If it does not, check the fuses, engine coolant temperature sensor, cooling fan, harness or connector.
