EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM(w/ Canister Pump Module) ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK FUEL CUT RPM

    1. A00YW3QC01
      *1 Sound Scope

Start and warm up the engine.

    2. Increase the engine speed to at least 3500 rpm.

    3. Use a sound scope to check for injector operating sounds.

    4. When the accelerator pedal is released, check that injector operating sounds stop momentarily and then resume.

If the result is not as specified, check the injectors, wiring and ECM.

      Standard
      Item Specified Condition
Fuel injection restart rpm 1400 rpm

      Tech Tips

Perform the inspection with the A/C off.

  2. VISUALLY INSPECT HOSES, CONNECTIONS AND GASKETS

    1. Visually check that the hoses, connections and gaskets have no cracks, leaks or damage.

      Note

      • Detachment or other problems with the engine oil dipstick, filler cap, PCV hose and other components may cause the engine to run improperly.

      • Disconnection, looseness or cracks in the parts of the air induction system between the throttle body and cylinder head will allow air suction and cause an engine failure or engine malfunctions.

If the result is not as specified, replace parts as necessary.

  3. INSPECT EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. A00YW3B

Slide the clamp and disconnect the fuel vapor feed hose from the purge VSV.

    3. Start the engine.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VSV for Evap Control.

Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test
      Tester Display
Activate the VSV for Evap Control
    5. Check that vacuum occurs at the purge VSV port.

If vacuum does not occur, check the following items.

      • Purge VSV

      • Clogging in the fuel vapor feed hose connecting the intake manifold and purge VSV

      • Voltage at the ECM PRG terminal

    6. Exit Active Test mode and reconnect the fuel vapor feed hose.

    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / EVAP Purge VSV.

Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Data List
      Tester Display
      EVAP Purge VSV
    8. Warm up the engine and drive the vehicle.

    9. Confirm that the purge valve opens.

If the result is not as specified, replace the purge VSV, wire harness or ECM.

  4. CHECK LINE AND CONNECTORS

    1. Visually check for loose connections, sharp bends or damage.

  5. CHECK FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY

    1. Visually check for deformation, cracks or fuel leakage.

  6. CHECK FUEL TANK AND VENT LINE

    1. Disconnect the vent line tube from the charcoal canister assembly.

*1 Fuel Tank Cap *2 Vent Line Tube
      *3 Charcoal Canister Assembly - -
    2. Connect a pressure gauge to the vent line tube.

    3. Apply 4 kPa (0.04 kgf/cm2, 0.6 psi) of pressure to the vent line of the fuel tank.

      Tech Tips

Perform this inspection with the fuel tank less than 90% full. When the fuel tank is full, the fuel cutoff valve closes and pressure is released through the 1.5 mm (0.0591 in.) orifice. As a result, when the fuel tank cap is removed, the pressure does not decrease smoothly.

    4. Check that the fuel tank pressure is maintained for some time, and does not decrease immediately.

      Tech Tips

If the pressure decreases immediately, one of the following may be the cause:

      • The fuel tank cap is not completely tightened.

      • The fuel tank cap is damaged.

      • Air is leaking from the vent line.

      • The fuel tank is damaged.

    5. When the fuel tank cap is removed, check that pressure is released smoothly.

      Tech Tips

If the pressure does not drop, replace the fuel tank assembly.

    6. Reconnect the vent line tube to the charcoal canister assembly.

  7. CHECK AIR INLET LINE

    1. Disconnect the air inlet line hose from the charcoal canister assembly.

    2. Check that air flows freely into the air inlet line.

      Tech Tips

If air does not flow freely into the air inlet line, repair or replace it.

    3. Reconnect the air inlet line hose to the charcoal canister assembly.
