REAR CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL


    1. A01CWI9E02

      Apply MP grease to the lip of a new engine rear oil seal.

      Note


      • Do not allow foreign matter to contact the lip of the rear engine oil seal.

      • Do not allow MP grease to contact the dust seal.

    2. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the engine rear oil seal until its surface is flush with the edges of the cylinder block assembly and crankcase.

      Note


      • Wipe off any extra grease from the crankshaft.

      • Do not tap in the engine rear oil seal at an angle.

  2. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY (for CVT)


    1. A01CXBTN09

      Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

      for 86 mm (3.39 in.) Bolt Pitch Type:

      SST
      09213-58014   ( 91551-80840 )
      09330-00021

      for 64 mm (2.52 in.) Bolt Pitch Type:

      SST
      09213-54015

      Tech Tips

      For the 64 mm (2.52 in.) bolt pitch type, the part number of the installationbolt for SST (crankshaft pulley holding tool) is 91551-00850 (quantity: 2).

    2. Clean the bolts and bolt holes.

      *1 Front Drive Plate Spacer (Reversible)
      *2 Drive Plate and Ring Gear Sub-assembly
      *3 Rear Drive Plate Spacer
      *a Engine Side
      *b Transaxle Side

      Install the front drive plate spacer.

    4. Install the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and the rear drive plate spacer to the crankshaft.

      Tech Tips


      • The front drive plate spacer is reversible.

      • As the rear drive plate spacer and the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly are not reversible. be sure to install them so that they are facing in the direction shown in the illustration.

    5. A01CWKLC31
      *1 Adhesive

      Apply a few drops of adhesive to 2 or 3 threads at the end of each of the 8 bolts.

      Adhesive
      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent
    6. A01CYY8N01

      Install and uniformly tighten the 8 bolts in several steps in the sequence shown in the illustration.

      Torque:
      88 N*m  { 897 kgf*cm, 65 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Do not start the engine for at least an hour after installing the drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly.

  3. INSTALL FLYWHEEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Manual Transaxle)

      Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

      for 86 mm (3.39 in.) Bolt Pitch Type:

      for 64 mm (2.52 in.) Bolt Pitch Type:

      Tech Tips

      For the 64 mm (2.52 in.) bolt pitch type, the part number of the installationbolt for SST (crankshaft pulley holding tool) is 91551-00850 (quantity: 2).

    2. Clean the bolts and bolt holes.

      *1 Adhesive

      Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads at the end of the 8 bolts.

      Adhesive
      Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324 or equivalent
    4. A01CWKUN01

      Using several steps, tighten the 8 bolts uniformly in the sequence shown in the illustration.

      Torque:
      49 N*m  { 500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf }

    5. Mark the top of each bolt with paint.

    6. Tighten the 8 bolts 90°.

    7. Check that the paint marks are now at a 90° angle to the top.

    8. Check that the crankshaft turns smoothly.
