CAMSHAFT OIL CONTROL VALVE ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Start the engine.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake camshaft).


      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT System (Bank 1).


        Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test
        Tester Display
        Control the VVT System (Bank1)
      2. Check the engine speed when the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly is operated using the GTS with the engine coolant temperature 50°C (122°F) or less.

        Tech Tips


        • When performing the Active Test, the air conditioning should be on.

        • The engine coolant temperature when the engine is started should be 30°C (86°F) or less.

          OK
          Condition Specified Condition
          Oil control valve OFF Normal engine speed
          Oil control valve ON

          Rough idle or engine stalled

          (soon after camshaft timing oil control valve assembly switched from OFF to ON)

    5. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust camshaft).


      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank 1).


        Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test
        Tester Display
        Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1)
      2. Check the engine speed when the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly is operated using the GTS with the engine coolant temperature 50°C (122°F) or less.

        Tech Tips


        • When performing the Active Test, the air conditioning should be on.

        • The engine coolant temperature when the engine is started should be 30°C (86°F) or less.
