ECD SYSTEM, Diagnostic DTC:P0069

DTC Code DTC Name
P0069 MAP Sensor Too High or Too Low

DESCRIPTION

To detect atmospheric pressure, the atmospheric pressure sensor built into the ECM is used in the common rail system. Following the changes in the atmospheric pressure, the ECM corrects the fuel injection volume, timing and duration, and adjusts the common rail internal fuel pressure to optimize combustion.

DTC No. Detection Item DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area MIL Memory
P0069 MAP Sensor Too High or Too Low After the ignition switch is turned to ON, the difference between the atmospheric pressure sensor output and manifold absolute pressure sensor output is higher than 8 kPa for 0.5 seconds (2 trip detection logic).
  • Manifold absolute pressure sensor

  • MAP

Tech Tips

  • Turn the ignition switch to ON and check the Atmosphere Pressure and MAP items in the Data List. If the atmospheric pressure displayed on the GTS differs greatly from the actual atmospheric pressure (standard: 101 kPa), the sensor (atmospheric pressure sensor or manifold absolute pressure sensor) is malfunctioning.

  • If DTC P0069 is stored, the following symptoms may appear:

    • Misfire

    • Combustion noise

    • Black smoke

    • White smoke

    • Lack of power

CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

DTC No. DTC Detection Drive Pattern
P0069 1 second elapses after ignition switch turned from off to ON (starter remains off)

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (Click here) and initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

  • Although the DTC titles say Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Too High or Too Low, these DTCs relate to the atmospheric pressure sensor.

  • Although the DTC titles say Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Too High or Too Low, these DTCs relate to the atmospheric pressure sensor.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0069)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read the DTCs.

Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

      DTC P0069 is output A
DTC P0069 and other DTCs are output B

      Tech Tips

If any DTCs other than P0069 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

  2. INSPECT MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR

    Tech Tips

Before inspecting the manifold absolute pressure sensor, perform a wire harness inspection and if there are any problems with the wire harness, repair or replace it.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / MAP.

Powertrain > Engine > Data List

  3. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Clear the DTC.

Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs
    5. Turn the ignition switch off and wait for 30 seconds or more.

    6. Turn the ignition switch to ON for 1 second.

    7. Turn the GTS on.

    8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    9. Confirm that the DTC is not output.
