PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT FOR COOLANT LEAK (for Intercooler)

    CAUTION:

Do not remove the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Remove the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler).

    2. A01M24J

Fill the intercooler reservoir assembly with coolant, and then install a radiator cap tester.

    3. Warm up the engine.

    4. Using the radiator cap tester, increase the pressure inside the intercooler cooling radiator assembly to 118 kPa (1.2 kgf/cm2, 17 psi), and then check that the pressure does not drop.

If the pressure drops, check the hoses, intercooler cooling radiator assembly, intercooler assembly, turbocharger sub-assembly and electric water pump assembly for leakage.

If there are no signs of external coolant leaks, check the intercooler assembly and turbocharger sub-assembly.

    5. Remove the radiator cap tester.

    6. Install the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler).

  2. INSPECT COOLANT LEVEL (for Intercooler)

    1. A01LYGAC02
      *a FULL Line
      *b LOW Line

Check that the coolant level is between the LOW and FULL lines when the engine is cold.

If the coolant level is low, check for leaks and add TOYOTA Super Long Life Coolant (SLLC) or similar high quality ethylene glycol based non-silicate, non-amine, non-nitrite, and non-borate coolant with long-life hybrid organic acid technology up to the FULL line.

      Note

Do not substitute plain water for coolant.

  3. INSPECT COOLANT QUALITY (for Intercooler)

    CAUTION:

Do not remove the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler) while the coolant (for Intercooler) is still hot. Pressurized, hot coolant and steam may be released and cause serious burns.

    1. Remove the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler).

    2. Check that there are no excessive deposits of rust or scale around the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler) and that the coolant is free of oil.

If the coolant is excessively dirty, replace the coolant.

    3. Install the reservoir tank cap (for Intercooler).
