| P0101 | Both of the following conditions are met:
|
| DTC No. | Data List |
|---|---|
| P0101 | MAF |
If DTC P0101 is stored, the following symptoms may appear:
Black smoke
Poor acceleration
Combustion noise increases
Lack of power due to a fail-safe operation
CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
When replacing the ECM, perform ECM Initialization and Registration.
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following procedure.
When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing a new ECM, perform all of the initialization and registration procedures for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
PROCEDURE
CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0101)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
Read the DTCs.

CHECK CONNECTION OF VACUUM HOSES
OK
---
The vacuum hoses are appropriately connected to each other.
Check the vacuum hose connection of the diesel turbo pressure sensor.
Check that there are no air leaks in the diesel turbo pressure sensor vacuum hose.

READ VALUE USING GTS (MAF)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Start the engine and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / MAF and Coolant Temp.
Tester Display
---
MAF
Coolant Temp
Allow the engine to idle until the Coolant Temp reaches 75°C (167°F) or higher.
Read MAF with the engine idling and at an engine speed of 2000 rpm.

|
The shift lever should be in neutral and the A/C switch and all accessory switches should be off.
When reading the values of Data List, confirm that PM regeneration is not activating (value of "After Injection Period" is 0) by entering the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / After Injection Period.
If PM regeneration is activated (value of "After Injection Period" is not 0), drive the vehicle until PM regeneration is complete (value of "After Injection Period" becomes 0).
When idling, EGR cut occurs under either of the following conditions:
PM regeneration is activated.
Idling time is long (approximately 20 minutes or more).
If EGR is cut off when idling and PM regeneration is not activated, when the vehicle is driven in 4th gear between 90 and 100 km/h (56 and 62 mph) for 30 minutes, EGR resumes.

CHECK INTAKE AND EXHAUST SYSTEM
Check for air leaks and blockage between the air cleaner case and the turbocharger, and between the turbocharger and the intake manifold.
OK
---
No air leak or blockage.

READ VALUE USING GTS (MAP AND ATMOSPHERE PRESSURE)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / MAP and Atmosphere Pressure.
Tester Display
---
Atmosphere Pressure
MAP
Compare the values when the ignition switch is ON.
Standard
---
Difference between MAP and Atmosphere Pressure is less than 7 kPa.
Standard atmospheric pressure is 101 kPa. For every 100 m increase in altitude, pressure drops by 1 kPa. Atmospheric pressure varies with the weather.

PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (DIESEL THROTTLE TARGET ANGLE)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Diesel Throttle Target Angle / Data List / Actual Throttle Position.
Active Test Display
---
Diesel Throttle Target Angle
Data List Display
---
Actual Throttle Position
When changing the Active Test value from 0 to 90%, check that Actual Throttle Position smoothly changes to the set opening angle.
OK
---
Value smoothly changes to the set opening angle.

PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (CONTROL THE EGR STEP POSITION)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the EGR Step Position / Data List / Actual EGR Valve Pos.
Active Test Display
---
Control the EGR Step Position
Data List Display
---
Actual EGR Valve Pos.
When changing the Active Test value from 1 to 100%, check that Actual EGR Valve Pos. smoothly changes to the set opening angle.
OK
---
Value smoothly changes to the set opening angle.

CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P0101)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.
Clear the DTCs.
Start the engine and allow it to idle until the engine coolant temperature reaches 70°C (158°F) or higher.
Drive the vehicle in 3rd gear, decelerate from more than 2600 rpm to 1200 rpm with the accelerator pedal fully released.
When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes / Pending.
