STEERING PAD REMOVAL

PROCEDURE


  1. PRECAUTION

    CAUTION:

    Be sure to read Precaution thoroughly before servicing.

    Note

    After turning the power switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal notices before proceeding with work.

  2. REMOVE BATTERY BOX COVER

    for Hatchback: Click here

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM AUXILIARY BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL

    CAUTION:

    Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    Note

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

  4. REMOVE HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY

    CAUTION:

    When storing the horn button assembly, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.


    1. Check that the power switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      *A for Horn Button Assembly Side
      *B for Steering Wheel Assembly Side
      *1 Omega Spring

      Using a T30H "TORX" screwdriver, push in the omega spring to disengage the 2 claws (A).

      Tech Tips

      Insert the T30H "TORX" screwdriver from the 2 service holes.

    4. Using a T30H "TORX" screwdriver, push in the part (C) to disengage the claw (B).

      Tech Tips

      Insert the T30H "TORX" screwdriver from the service hole.

    5. A01KTZA

      Disengage the pin and pull out the horn button assembly from the steering wheel assembly and support the horn button assembly with one hand.

      Note


      • Do not drop the horn button assembly.

      • When removing the horn button assembly, do not pull the airbag wire harness.

      *1 Airbag Connector
      *2 Horn Connector
      *3 Airbag Connector Lock
      *a Protective Tape

      Disconnect the horn connector from the horn button assembly.

    7. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, release the airbag connector lock.

    8. Disconnect the airbag connector to remove the horn button assembly.

      Note

      When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
