AUTOMATIC HIGH BEAM SYSTEM DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

  1. DATA LIST

    Tech Tips

Using the GTS to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuator and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.

    Note

In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch to on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / (desired system) / Data List.

    5. Read the Data List according to the display on the GTS.

  2. ACTIVE TEST

    Tech Tips

Using the GTS to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / AFS / Active Test.

    5. Perform the Active Test according to the display on the GTS.

Body Electrical > AFS > Active Test
Tester Display Measurement Item Control Range Diagnostic Note
Automatic High Beam Operation Automatic high beam system operation ON/OFF

      ON: Operation is started

      OFF: Operation is stopped

      Tech Tips

Use the following procedure for operation check.

      • Change the Active Test item to ON and check that the inner rear view mirror assembly indicator blinks.

      • Make the area around the vehicle dark enough for the automatic high beam system to turn on and check that the high beam headlights turn on.

      • With the high beam headlights on, shine a light on the camera lens of the inner rear view mirror assembly (automatic high beam sensor) using a white or red light and check that the high beam headlights change to the low beam headlights.

      Note

The low beam or high beam headlights may not turn on if the area around the vehicle is bright or depending on the way that light is shone on the camera lens.
