SIMPLE INTELLIGENT PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM INITIALIZATION


  1. OUTLINE


    1. If the following operations are performed, it is necessary to perform initialization.

      Operation Proceed to
      Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, or remove the fuse for the simple intelligent parking assist system, etc. ("IPA NOT AVAILABLE, STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN WHEEL FROM LEFT END TO RIGHT END" is displayed on the multi-information display) Procedure 1

      • Removal and installation of the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly

      • Replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly

      • Replace the clearance warning ECU assembly

      		 Procedure 2

  2. MEMORIZE MAXIMUM STEERING ANGLE (PROCEDURE 1)


    1. When "IPA NOT AVAILABLE, STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN WHEEL FROM LEFT END TO RIGHT END" is displayed on the multi-information display, memorize the maximum steering angle using the following procedure.

      Note

      Memorizing the maximum steering angle must be carried out with the engine started. Apply the parking brake, depress the brake pedal, check that the shift lever is in P, and ensure that the vehicle is not moving.


      1. Press the IPA main switch assembly.

      2. Turn the steering wheel to the left and right lock positions within 15 seconds after pressing the IPA main switch assembly.

  3. INITIALIZE SIMPLE INTELLIGENT PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM (PROCEDURE 2)

    Note

    Initialization procedure must be carried out with the engine started. Apply the parking brake, depress the brake pedal, check that the shift lever is in P, and ensure that the vehicle is not moving.

    Tech Tips

    Before starting the initialization procedure, make sure that no DTCs except C1694, U0301 and U0322 are output.


    1. Start the initialization procedure


      1. Operate the light control switch within 5 seconds with the IPA main switch assembly pressed and held: Off → Tail → Off → Tail → Off → Tail → Off → Tail → Off → Tail.

      2. Check that "WRITE ZERO-POINT OF STEERING ANGLE" is displayed on the multi-information display and the No. 2 clearance warning buzzer sounds at 0.15-second intervals.

        Note

        If "MEMORY ERROR" is displayed on the multi-information display and the No. 1 clearance warning buzzer sounds for 1 second, refer to Problem Symptoms Table.

    2. Memorize the steering angle neutral point


      1. Check that the steering wheel is centered (approximately +/- 5 degrees or less) and then press the IPA main switch assembly.

        Note

        Make sure that the wheels are positioned straight ahead.

      2. Check that "WRITE MAXIMUM STEERING ANGLE" is displayed on the multi-information display, the No. 2 clearance warning buzzer sounds at 0.075-second intervals and the steering angle neutral point is memorized.

        Note

        If the multi-information display and buzzer interval do not change and the steering angle neutral point cannot be memorized, a malfunction of the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is suspected. Turn the ignition switch off and check for DTCs.

    3. Memorize the maximum steering angle


      1. Turn the steering wheel to the left and right lock positions and press the IPA main switch assembly.

        Tech Tips

        It is also possible to start by initially turning the steering to the right side.

      2. Check that "END OF ADJUSTMENT" is displayed on the multi-information display, the No. 1 clearance warning buzzer sounds for 1 second after the No. 2 clearance warning buzzer stops sounding and initialization is completed.

        Note

        If the multi-information display and buzzer sound interval do not change and the maximum steering angle cannot be memorized, a malfunction of the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is suspected. Turn the ignition switch off and check for DTCs.
