STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

w/ VSC:

  • Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with the battery connected and the ignition switch ON.

  • Do not rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly without the steering wheel with the battery connected and the ignition switch ON.

  • Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER (for Hatchback, Wagon)


    1. Engage the 4 pins and 2 claws to install a new lower steering wheel boss cover to the steering wheel sub-assembly.

  2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION SHIFT SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/ Shift Paddle Switch)


    1. Engage the 2 guides to install the 2 transmission shift switch assemblies with No. 1 switch wire to the steering wheel sub-assembly.

    2. Install the 2 transmission shift switch assemblies to the steering wheel sub-assembly with the 2 screws.

      Torque:
      1.3 N*m  { 13 kgf*cm, 12 in.*lbf }

  3. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WIRE (w/ Cruise Control System)


    1. Install the cruise control switch wire.

  4. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH (w/ Cruise Control System)

  5. INSTALL STEERING SHAKE DAMPER (for Hatchback, Wagon with CVT)


    1. Install the steering shake damper to the steering wheel sub-assembly with the 2 screws.

      Torque:
      2.35 N*m  { 24 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf }

  6. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ORNAMENT (w/o Steering Pad Switch)


    1. Engage the 4 claws, 2 pins and 2 guides to install the steering wheel ornament to the steering wheel sub-assembly.

    2. Install the 2 screws.

      Torque:
      2.35 N*m  { 24 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf }

  7. INSTALL STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Pad Switch)

  8. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  9. INSPECT AND ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/o VSC)

  10. INSPECT AND ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ VSC)

  11. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

      *a Matchmark

      Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft to install the steering wheel assembly.

    2. Install the steering wheel assembly set nut.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }

    3. Connect each connector to the spiral cable sub-assembly.

  12. CHECK STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT

  13. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY
