FRONT BRAKE REMOVAL

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the LH side and RH side.

  • The following procedure is for the LH side.

  • Refer to the illustration to confirm the type of brake caliper.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL

  2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

    Note

    If brake fluid leaks onto any painted surface, immediately wash it off.

  3. DISCONNECT FRONT FLEXIBLE HOSE

      Remove the union bolt and gasket, and disconnect the front flexible hose from the front disc brake cylinder assembly.

  4. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY

      *a Hold
      *b Turn

      Hold the 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pins and remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake cylinder assembly.

  5. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD


    1. A012LPM

      Remove the 2 front disc brake pads from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  6. REMOVE FRONT ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM (except 1AD-FTV)


    1. for Type A:


      1. Remove the front anti-squeal shim from each front disc brake pad.

    2. for Type B:


      1. Remove the front No. 1 anti-squeal shim and front No. 2 anti-squeal shim from each front disc brake pad.

      2. Remove the pad wear indicator plate from each front disc brake pad.

  7. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE

      Remove the 4 front disc brake pad support plates from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

      Note

      Each front disc brake pad support plate has a different shape. Be sure to put an identification mark on each front disc brake pad support plate so that it can be reinstalled to its original position.

  8. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN (except 1AD-FTV)


    1. A012IOD

      Remove the 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pins from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

    2. A012N7OC02
      *a Protective Tape

      Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, remove the front disc brake cylinder slide bushing from the front disc brake cylinder slide pin (for lower side).

      Note

      Do not damage the front disc brake cylinder slide pin (for lower side).

  9. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER SLIDE PIN (for 1AD-FTV)


    1. A012F36

      Remove the 2 front disc brake cylinder slide pins from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

    2. A012N7OC02
      *a Protective Tape

      Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, remove the front disc brake cylinder slide bushing from the front disc brake cylinder slide pin (for upper side).

      Note

      Do not damage the front disc brake cylinder slide pin (for upper side).

  10. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE BUSHING DUST BOOT


    1. A012FHN

      Remove the 2 front disc brake bushing dust boots from the front disc brake cylinder mounting.

  11. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER MOUNTING


    1. A012H49

      Remove the 2 bolts and front disc brake cylinder mounting from the steering knuckle.

  12. REMOVE FRONT DISC

      *a Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the front disc and the front axle hub sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the front disc.
