REAR SHOCK ABSORBER(for Torsion Beam Type Suspension) INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL REAR NO. 1 SPRING BUMPER


    1. Install the rear No. 1 spring bumper to the rear shock absorber assembly.

  2. TEMPORARILY INSTALL REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY


    1. Insert the upper end of the rear shock absorber assembly with rear No. 1 spring bumper into the vehicle body.

    2. Temporarily install the rear shock absorber assembly to the rear axle beam assembly with the bolt and nut.

      Note

      Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Tighten the bolt with the nut secured.

      Tech Tips

      Insert the bolt with the threaded end facing the outside of the vehicle.

  3. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION SUPPORT

      Install the rear suspension support.

      Note

      Make sure that the rear suspension support is correctly installed as shown in the illustration.

  4. INSTALL REAR SHOCK ABSORBER CUSHION RETAINER


    1. A01TCVYC01
      A01TCE3 Upper Side
      A01TBGJ Lower Side

      Install the rear shock absorber cushion retainer.

      Note

      Be sure to install the rear shock absorber cushion retainer in the correct direction.

    2. Apply a few drops of adhesive to the threads of a new nut.

      Adhesive
      Toyota genuine adhesive 1324, three bond 1324 or equivalent

    3. Using a union nut wrench, fully tighten the lock nut while holding the rod of the rear shock absorber assembly with a 6 mm hexagon wrench.

      Torque:
      25 N*m  { 255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf }

      Note


      • Securely insert the 6 mm hexagon wrench into the rear shock absorber rod to prevent damage to the rear shock absorber assembly when tightening the nut.

      • Use the formula to calculate special torque values for situations where the union nut wrench is combined with a torque wrench.

  5. INSTALL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM COVER ASSEMBLY (for Sedan)

  6. INSTALL REAR ABSORBER CAP (except Sedan)


    1. Engage the 2 claws to install the rear absorber cap.

  7. INSTALL REAR HEIGHT CONTROL SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY (w/ Height Control Sensor)

  8. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

    Torque:
    103 N*m  { 1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf }

  9. STABILIZE SUSPENSION


    1. Lower the vehicle.

    2. Bounce the vehicle up and down several times to stabilize the suspension.

  10. INSTALL REAR SHOCK ABSORBER ASSEMBLY


    1. Install the rear shock absorber assembly with the bolt.

      Torque:
      90 N*m  { 918 kgf*cm, 66 ft.*lbf }

      Note

      Because the nut has its own stopper, do not turn the nut. Tighten the bolt with the nut secured.

  11. INSPECT REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
