EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT SEATING OF EGR VALVE (ELECTRIC EGR CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY)

   
   

   1. Start the engine, and then check that the engine starts and runs at idle.

2. INSPECT EGR VALVE (ELECTRIC EGR CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY) OPERATION

   
   

   1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

   2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

   3. Turn the GTS on.

   4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the EGR Step Position.

      
      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test

      Tester Display
      Control the EGR Step Position

   5. Read the Data List item Target EGR Position and Actual EGR valve pos.

      Standard Percentage
      Control Range Condition Specified Condition Active Test performed (Set EGR position to 0% → 25% → 50% → 75% → 100% → 75% → 50% → 25% → 0%) Actual EGR valve opening percentage changes according to Active Test operation

3. INSPECT NO. 2 EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the No. 2 EGR valve assembly.

   2. 

      *1	No. 2 EGR Valve Assembly
      *a	Rod

      Apply vacuum and then check that the rod of the No. 2 EGR valve assembly operates as shown in the illustration.

      If the rod does not operate, replace the No. 2 EGR valve assembly.

4. VISUALLY INSPECT HOSES, CONNECTIONS AND GASKETS

   
   

   1. Visually check that the hoses, connections and gaskets have no cracks, leaks or damage.

      Note

      
      

      • Detachment or other problems with the engine oil dipstick, filler cap, PCV hose and other components may cause the engine to run improperly.

      • Air suction caused by disconnections, looseness or cracks in the parts of the air induction system between the throttle body and cylinder head will cause engine failure or engine malfunctions.

      If any defects are found, replace parts as necessary.
