Tech Tips
It is normal for the cooling fans to sometimes rotate when the ignition switch is turned from ACC to ON.
PROCEDURE
INSPECT COOLING FAN OPERATION AT LOW TEMPERATURES (Below 95°C (203°F))
Turn the ignition switch to ON with the A/C switch off.
Check that the cooling fans are stopped.
If not, check the cooling fan relay and engine coolant temperature sensor, and check whether there is disconnection or an open circuit between them.
Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
Check that the cooling fans operate.
If not, check the fuses, cooling fan relay, ECM and cooling fans, and check for a short circuit between the cooing fan relay and engine coolant temperature sensor.
Reconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
INSPECT COOLING FAN OPERATION AT HIGH TEMPERATURES (Above 97°C (207°F))
Start the engine, and raise the engine coolant temperature to above 97°C (207°F).
Check that the A/C switch is off.
Check that the cooling fans operate.
If not, replace the engine coolant temperature sensor.
