EXHAUST PIPE INSTALLATION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

When removing or installing the center exhaust pipe assembly, do not subject the temperature switch to impacts.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (TWC: Rear Catalyst)


    1. A01TB16

      Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression springs.

      Minimum 41.5 mm (1.63 in.)

      If the free length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

      *1 Exhaust Manifold Converter Sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst)
      *2 Gasket
      *a Wooden Block

      Using a plastic hammer and wooden block, tap in a new gasket until its surface is flush with the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst).

      Note


      • Be sure to install the gasket in the correct direction.

      • Do not reuse the gasket.

      • Do not damage the gasket.

      • Do not push in the gasket by using the exhaust pipe when connecting it.

    3. A01TCGBC07
      *1 Exhaust Manifold Converter Sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst)
      *2 Front Exhaust Pipe Assembly (TWC: Rear Catalyst)
      *3 Gasket
      *a Space Between Flanges: 8.5 mm (0.335 in.)

      Install the front exhaust pipe assembly (TWC: Rear Catalyst) with the 2 bolts and 2 compression springs.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      After installation, check that the space between the flanges of the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst) and front exhaust pipe assembly (TWC: Rear Catalyst) is consistent front-to-rear and left-to-right.

  2. INSTALL HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR

  3. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for Front Side)


    1. Install a new gasket to the front exhaust pipe assembly (TWC: Rear Catalyst).

    2. Connect the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Front Side) to the 2 exhaust pipe supports.

    3. w/o Exhaust Heat Recirculation System:


      1. Install the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Front Side) with the 2 bolts.

        Torque:
        43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

    4. w/ Exhaust Heat Recirculation System:


      1. Install the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Front Side) with the 2 bolts.

        Torque:
        43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

        Note


        • Do not hold the water inlet and outlet pipe.

        • When removing or installing the center exhaust pipe assembly, do not subject the temperature switch to impacts.

      2. Connect the 2 water hoses and slide the 2 clips to secure them.

  4. INSTALL CENTER EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for Rear Side)


    1. A01TB16

      Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the compression springs.

      Minimum 38.5 mm (1.52 in.)

      If the free length is less than the minimum, replace the compression spring.

      *1 Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly (for Front Side)
      *2 Gasket
      *a Wooden Block

      Using a plastic hammer and wooden block, tap in a new gasket until its surface is flush with the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Front Side).

      Note


      • Be sure to install the gasket in the correct direction.

      • Do not reuse the gasket.

      • Do not damage the gasket.

      • Do not push in the gasket by using the exhaust pipes when connecting them.

    3. Connect the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Rear Side) to the exhaust pipe support.

      *1 Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly (for Front Side)
      *2 Center Exhaust Pipe Assembly (for Rear Side)
      *3 Gasket
      *a Space Between Flanges: 6.5 mm (0.256 in.)

      Install the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Rear Side) with the 2 bolts and 2 compression springs.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      After installation, check that the space between the flanges of the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Rear Side) and center exhaust pipe assembly (for Front Side) is consistent front-to-rear and left-to-right.

  5. INSTALL TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for Hatchback)


    1. Install a new gasket to the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Rear Side).

    2. Connect the tail exhaust pipe assembly to the exhaust pipe support.

    3. Install the tail exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

  6. INSTALL TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for Sedan)


    1. Install a new gasket to the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Rear Side).

    2. Connect the tail exhaust pipe assembly to the exhaust pipe support.

    3. Install the tail exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

  7. INSTALL TAIL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (for Wagon)


    1. Install a new gasket to the center exhaust pipe assembly (for Rear Side).

    2. Connect the tail exhaust pipe assembly to the 2 exhaust pipe supports.

    3. Install the tail exhaust pipe assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      43 N*m  { 438 kgf*cm, 32 ft.*lbf }

  8. ADD ENGINE COOLANT (w/ Exhaust Heat Recirculation System)

  11. INSTALL NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER (w/ Exhaust Heat Recirculation System)
