OIL AND OIL FILTER REPLACEMENT

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

CAUTION:


  • Prolonged and repeated contact with engine oil will result in the removal of natural oils from the skin, leading to dryness, irritation and dermatitis. In addition, used engine oil contains potentially harmful contaminants which may cause skin cancer.

  • Wear protective clothing and gloves. Avoid contact with used oil. If contact occurs, wash your skin thoroughly with soap or waterless hand cleaner. Never use gasoline, thinners, or solvents to wash the skin.

  • In order to protect the environment, dispose of used oil and used oil filters at designated disposal sites only.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE ENGINE SERVICE HOLE COVER


    1. A0030IY

      Remove the 3 screws and engine service hole cover from the No. 1 engine under cover.

  2. DRAIN ENGINE OIL


    1. Remove the oil filler cap sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the oil pan drain plug and gasket, and drain the engine oil into a container.

    3. Clean the oil pan drain plug.

    4. Install a new gasket to the oil pan drain plug.

    5. Install the oil pan drain plug.

      Torque:
      25 N*m  { 255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf }
  3. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER

  4. REMOVE OIL FILTER SUB-ASSEMBLY

      Using a 27 mm socket wrench, remove the oil filter cover.

      *2 Oil Filter Cover
      *3 O-Ring

      Remove the oil filter sub-assembly from the oil filter cover.

    3. Remove the 2 O-rings from the oil filter sub-assembly and the oil filter cover.

      Note

      Do not use any tools to remove the O-rings in order to prevent the oil filter cap assembly from being damaged. Be sure to remove them by hand.

  5. INSTALL OIL FILTER SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Clean the inside of the oil filter cover, the threads and O-ring groove.

      Apply a small amount of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it to the oil filter cover.

      Note


      • Be sure to install the O-ring in the proper location, otherwise engine oil may leak.

      • Do not twist the O-ring.

    3. Apply a small amount of engine oil to a new O-ring.

      Install the O-ring to a new oil filter sub-assembly.

    5. Set the oil filter sub-assembly in the oil filter assembly.

      Note

      Insert the protrusion of the oil filter sub-assembly into the oil filter assembly hole.

    6. Apply a small amount of engine oil to the O-ring again and temporarily install the oil filter cover.

      Using a 27 mm socket wrench, tighten the oil filter cover.

      Torque:
      25 N*m  { 255 kgf*cm, 18 ft.*lbf }

      Note


      • After tightening the oil filter cover, make sure that there is no gap and that the O-ring is not protruding.

  6. ADD ENGINE OIL


    1. Add clean engine oil and install the oil filler cap sub-assembly.

      Standard engine oil
      Toyota recommends the use of approved "Toyota Genuine Motor Oil 5W-30 Premium Fuel Economy for 1WW/2WW engines" or equivalent.
      Standard Capacity:
      Item Standard Condition
      Drain and refill with oil filter change 5.2 liters (5.5 US qts, 4.6 Imp. qts)

      Tech Tips

      Refer to "OIL SPEC LIST" for the standard engine oil.

  7. INSPECT FOR ENGINE OIL LEAK


    1. Start the engine. Make sure that there are no engine oil leaks from the area that was worked on.

  10. INSTALL ENGINE SERVICE HOLE COVER


    1. Install the engine service hole cover to the No. 1 engine under cover with the 3 screws.
