DESCRIPTION

The rear cooling unit expansion valve is controlled by the air conditioning amplifier assembly.

PROCEDURE


  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (REAR A/C MAG VALVE)


    1. Select the Active Test, use the GTS to generate a control command, and then check that the rear cooling unit expansion valve operates Click here.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WIRING AIR CONDITIONING HARNESS SUB-ASSEMBLY - BATTERY)

      Disconnect the wiring air conditioning harness sub-assembly connector.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      2 - Body ground Engine switch off Below 1 V
      2 - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (WIRING AIR CONDITIONING HARNESS SUB-ASSEMBLY - AIR CONDITIONING AMPLIFIER ASSEMBLY)


    1. Disconnect the wiring air conditioning harness sub-assembly connector.

    2. Disconnect the E36 air conditioning amplifier assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      3 - E36-19 (RMGV) Always Below 1 Ω
      3 or E36-19 (RMGV) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

  4. CHECK REAR COOLING UNIT EXPANSION VALVE


    1. Replace the rear cooling unit expansion valve with a new or known good one and check that the condition returns to normal. Click here

      Tech Tips

      Since the rear cooling unit expansion valve cannot be inspected while it is removed from the vehicle, replace the rear cooling unit expansion valve with a new or known good one and check that the condition returns to normal.

    1. Replace the wiring air conditioning harness sub-assembly with a new or known good one and check that the condition returns to normal.
